Haha, I've never been on a plane before, my dad doesn't like flying, lol :P

I'm going on the train thingy though, in June to France with the school though :)

I fly around a lot, or at least it feels like I do. As I live partly in Belgium I fly home over the holidays and then back again.

My longest flight must have been the one when I flew from Helsinki to Florida (don't remember which air port, I was only 5 years old back then).

Thanks for the advise everyone! A family friend said that the best thing to do on an airplane is sleeping, and said to not sleep the entire night before. :P It is New Years Eve teh night before, so I guess I have an excuse... Even if I do that, I'll only sleep for 10 hours max, so I'll still have 8 hours to kill. And there's no way I'm staying in my cramped chair for the entire flight!

I'm going with my older sister and my Mom. We're flying Philippine Airlines (also known as Plane Always Late ._.) in economy. We're bringing 3 CD players, an tape player, and a portable DVD player. And between my sister and I, we have about 20 CDs. :P And that's without my Mom's stuff added in.
I'm also bringing my journal, so I'll probably entertain myself for a couple of hours writing stuff.

Since my Mom is going back there for the first time in 17 years, she's bringing a while lot of stuff, including 4 cargo boxes. That means that my sister and I have to share a suitcase, which means that there's been a lot of arguing about who's stuff goes where. We finally got all our clothes in, but then we realized that there's no room for our shoes. Then I had the bright idea to put all the shoes in my carry on, which seemed to work until my sister pointed out that if we lost all our luggage, we'd have our shoes, not our clothes. :P

Oh well, 3 days until we leave and counting! :D

hmmm, books sometimes work, but normally I a) listen to music b) watch the plane movies and c) try and sleep^_^ heh.
I've been on a fair amount of plane rides, some quite long (to singapore from canada) and it gets boring and tiring, since you get rather sore, but it doesn't last forever, hehe.
The food is normally pretty gross, although I have once or twice, found that it's not too bad. Once, in fact, coming home from a trip to Quebec, I had a fairly descent meal of chicken^_^ haha. yeah, But don't expect much. If anything, bring some of your own snacks; something that's easy to eat, and that you'll enjoy, while not feeling fat, or stuffed. I find that plainer food is nicer, because then you don't feel bloated or fat, since I hate that feeling, haha.

I hope you have fun!!!^_^

Argh, my Mom just told me I can't bring the dozen hardback books I have in my carry on. Something about a 15 pound weight limit. >_> *goes and looks for some paperbacks to read*

The food's gotten worse, I swear. :x You'll want to keep occupied since trans-oceanic flights take ages and ages. They'll probably have several movies on board to keep you entertained. I highly recommend books and hand held games. I also recommend sleeping. You'll wake up sore, but at least you won't be bored to death. :) Have fun! ;)

Oh yeah, about sleeping...when's your flight? Overnight flights are the best for long flights (although not too late- once I had a 3:30 am flight that got delayed to 4:15! That was grueling), cause you can sleep right when you get on. By the time you wake up, probably 7-10 hours'll be gone.

Hm, as for Philippine Airlines, I haven't tried flying with them. Be glad you're not flying Air Canada though. :P Once my cousin was trying to transfer flights (Hong Kong - Vancouver - Toronto) and it arrived in Vancouver late. She kept getting put on the waiting list for the next flight to Toronto and so on...five times. Had to stay overnight. They've also got bad food, bad service, and whatnot. I should stop rambling now, haha.

Air Canada bites bull boogers.

When I was coming back from Italy (well technically Frankfurt, because thats where we picked up our flight), they served us SALMON... ICK. Who the heck serves salmon on a flight?
Not to mention, depending where you sit (it varies for everyone), you may or may not get the meal choice you want (normally theres two choices). They ran out of chicken on our flight, so we got salmon. Didn't eat it, it was gross (it still makes me sick thinking about it).
SO.
Being air canada, and stupid...
they put us on our flight from Montreal to Edmonton, and then they served us the SAME MEAL. (and they over booked my seat THREE times over, when the plane wasn't even all booked. How dumb is that?!)

Gah.
I feel sick now. And i'm not one who gets queasy easily. But that food was gross.

What's it like going through security?

Hoooooooooooorrible. It's more like guilty until proven innocent there.

Has airline food improved any?

Nah.

Will there be turbulance while flying over the Pacific?

I never flew over the Pacific but for a flight that long I'm pretty sure there will be

What are the odds I'll end up stranded on an deserted island like in Lost?

Very very great. No I'm j/k probably 1 in a million.

And more importantly, how am I going to entertain myself for 18 hours?? :

I usually read or bring my CD player. If you have a portable DVD player you could watch movies the whole time. Or sleep :P. Or try to make friends with the strangers on the plane, that's always fun :D

Stay up all night long then sleep on the plane. :)

Have fun!

ok, i am the voice of experience here, as I can now be a flight attendant as i have flown so often. The trans-pacific flight i was on (dallas to san jose to tokyo to san jose to dallas) was really nice: a tv in the back of every COACH seat! I didn't even see first class! most trans-oceanic flights have pretty good food, some with full menus! i dont believe my last flight was trans-oceanic though (dallas to seattle to ancorage to seattle to dallas)(no we're not rich, dad travels for his job alot)

some advice is to take your shoes off while you're on the plane, and only put them back on to go to the bathroom and such otherwise your feet swell up...

DVDs are good (they fill up time) cds, books, and little fun things are great for filling up time on planes. also if you can sleep, it fills up time, but i cant sleep on planes, so...

and don't forget: *flight attendant voice* please mark the nearest exit rows. your seat cusion can double as a floatation device. even when the captain turns off the fasten seatbelt sign, it is advised you leave your seatbelt on. please place your seat backs and traytables in the upright postition. please turn off all electronic devices. thank you and have a good flight (told you i've been on too many planes)[img][/img]

They should give you two choices. I'm so glad I wasn't on a flight like that, haha. I'm allergic to seafood >.< I would have thrown it back in their face, haha. No, but having only one choice? That's preeetty bad O.O

If you want to fly luxury, haha. Go Singapore Airlines! wow, but it costs more >.<

Lucky you, I haven't even been able to sit on a plane before. It sounds like fun. :P

Yea to be honest Singapore Airlines is pretty good, I flew twice on Singapore Airlines on the 18th, Kuala Lumpur > Singapore, Singapore > Guangzhou and my brother's friend, coincidentally was a flight attendant on the plane. I reckon it was pretty luxurious but I was sick, so the flight was horrible >_<. I really didn't like it, but hopefully when I fly back to Singapore, then Kuala Lumpur on the 17th, I'll be fine.

thats a good point! i take my shoes off when i get seated and dont put them back on again until i we have landed and i'm getting ready to get off. i do always take an extra pair of socks (and a warm jumper) coz its always freezing on planes. (particuarly long flights).

I always take a couple of books with me, but i never read them... always seems like a waste of me carrying them around the airports to me.

anyway, good luck and have fun!!
