I dunno, but to me, THAT cockroach kind of looks cute... XD
Though I haven't seen a live cockroach in about 10 years, so that just looks like a beetle.

Just as long as they don't show spiders on ads... Ahhhhhh...

Who the heck thought that would actually sell iPods?

It's not selling them ..... I'm pretty sure that the ads are the ones that are somewhat questionable.

Rune, I looked at the ss again. You're right, it's not actually selling iPods. It's another one of those ads I hate where you click through and have to sign up for tons of stuff and buy who knows how much of stuff you don't want, don't need and costs too much to get your "free" iPod. There's one for a "free" LV bag and one other one for something "free".

Imagining the look on some parent's face when they find out little Johnny or Jane has snitched their credit card and bought what-all so they could get something for "free".

*shudder* I. hate. bugs. I can deal with big animals - I'm not in the least afraid of my horse, even when he's bucking and sqealing (not with me on him) - but I HATE BUGS. Especially spiders. Snakes are fine because my cat brings them into the house all the time...but something about the scurrying drives me up a wall. It's not even really fear - I *know* that it's extremely unlikely a spider's going to bite me, but I still can't stand the sight of them.

and as for the banners...I think neo needs a reality check. Yes, you may need banners to live *cough* and I'm fine with them (particularly because I have firefox) but perhaps it's going a little too far, having flashing ads. Perhaps they could introduce some kind of rule where they have some control over the content of the banner ad...? I don't know what I'm talking about though really, so if it's impossible, don't bite me.

it would be nice if firefox could block the ad itself, not just the image. I would be so happy. of course if that happened, firefox would probably take over the world.

I can see your point. that's freaky stuff. I nearly jumped out of my chair when I saw your screenie :P I'm glad that banner hiding code thing still works ;)

I would think if they rely on a banner rotation company like Tribalfusion for the off-site ads.... they have very little if no control on what ads are shown (which may have been a factor in the switch from smaller to screen-length banners). Which is a shame really because I've seen with their smaller button ads, they have complete control and quite possibly Neo could handle it.

That's what's sad about it...if they had at least some control, they could insure (ensure?) the absence of spyware, at least. oh well. I have a pretty good line of defense as my dad does hardware and my mother does software ^_^ it's really odd when you think about it. on the surface it's this innocent, free children's (and adult's, lol) game...but underneath there's all kinds of things. money, ads, spyware, cockroaches...I still <3 neo, though, I've been with it for so long that I can't really hate them for ads.

There used to be a commercial on the tv, i forget what it was for. . Raid or something. It had a very realistic cockroach running across the screen during the ad like it was on your tv. When I first saw it, I went crazy because I could never kill it! Anyway, apparently the commercial freaked a bunch of people out and they had to pull it off the air.

BUGS!!!! *takes sludge hammer to screen*

Um, it was an accident?

I don't like the ad, I don't like bugs *gross*

Thanks, Rune, for clearing that up. I just assumed it was Apple doing the ad and was scratching my head at their choice in advertising. Now I can like iPods again!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one grossed out by this ad. I don't know about every one else but it seems that every page I get has this banner on it.

Wed Dec 29, 2004 4:54 pm

You wouldn't BELIEVE the amount of people on the NeoBoards that think that ad is disgusting. If you go into Help, some people make boards that get over 70 posts about this one banner ad.

Wed Dec 29, 2004 5:11 pm

*shudder*

That is just...eww....

I -so- hope they don't make a spider one...
