Just got slapped with a warning. Eep.

Quote:
You have received an official warning from the Neopets Team for violating the Neopets Terms and Conditions. Contests, promotions, lotteries, FTPs, Wishboards, or raffles are not permitted anywhere on Neopets including shops and guilds. The majority of these are scams to get free NP, items or make people buy over-priced items.
If you continue to break the rules, your account will be permanently frozen. To see a list of Neo Rules, please visit http://www.neopets.com/chatrules.phtml. Please do not reply to this NeoMessage.

I guess that's the last avatar simon I'll ever host or participate in (I've played a lot of those, but never have I seen one get deleted or warned on). I was having one that was extreme difficulty, I guess some folks didn't like me using very rare avatars, thought it was unfair and reported me. :(

My question is this: Am I still in danger now of being frozen? All I got was a warning...am I at risk of losing my account now over this? Has anyone here woke up in Iceland shortly after being reported?

I try to play fairly and by the rules, I'm not blaming TNT...I guess I'm upset at making a slip-up...I've participated and hosted and seen tons of avatar simon boards in the past, and didn't think they fell into the same category as "raffles" and "guild contests" since I'm not asking for anything from people, just giving them a chance to show off thier hard work. o_O

I know now though, and I WON'T be doing it again, that's for sure.
So anyone know if getting warning means prospective icing?

You post something like "enter", to enter, and then the host chooses avatars, and you have to change that avatar to be yours if you have it. So many strikes and you're out.

MUAHAHAHA

Yep, that's how it works. I don't bother making people say "enter" though.

Basically, the host changes their avatar, and then the people playing change their avatar to whichever avatar it is to prove they have it/earned it too. If you don't have it, you get a strike. At the end, the person or people with the most of the asked avatars are deemed the winner.

Since I was having an extreme difficulty avatar simon, I was allowing five strikes. The usual is 3 though.

Avatar simon boards are commonplace. Go into avatar chat right now and I PROMISE you'll see one, or I'll eat my hat. ;)

I just looked and saw 7 of them on page one....

Not sure why I got singled out of all the avatar simon hosts...I guess people see the avatar collector avatar I use and get angry I have it or something. Which I really don't understand, I quit serious collecting long ago, I am no longer a threat to anyone on the scoreboards. Icing me won't help their chances at all...I'm way from being a contender these days. o_O

I wouldn't of thought that was a contest or compition in TNT unless you were giving out a prize o_o

<STOWA|Sleep> my sister questioned the title. "Half Blooded Prince? Does that mean he's a Moogle"

This is a really strange, changing subject.

I tend to hold back on reporting, mainly because I'm afraid that I'll get frozen for 'abusing' the report system. Somebody probably reported you - generally the bots/moderators don't go for contests.

As a general rule, make sure the contest doesn't have a prize and/or entry fee. Make sure it is a 'competition' instead of a 'contest'. I'd stay away from them through.

As for you being frozen, we don't know. Contests are usually low level warnings; if you make/join a contest again(Un-advised of course), and get reported, you have about a 20-50% chance of being frozen, generally around 20-30%.

My advice - stay away from the Neoboards for about 2 weeks-1 month just incase somebody reports you for something like this. A more major report could get you a trip to Iceland.

Those who...Um...I don't know. Now... I've got nothing else to say.

Oh Val, I am sorry :( Neo is really cracking down on everything and anything that even hints at being any type of giveaway or contest.

It could well be that someone reported and changed what you wrote to make it look like whoever had the most/rarest av would get a "prize" - this is a beef I have with the Report This Message button - people CAN change what's written and has led to false reporting/warnings/freezings.

Could also be that there is an over-zealous monitor on the site. There have been an awful lot of warnings/freezings lately. Saw someone frozen last night for "profanity" (I still don't know what the "bad" word was and I was reading the board); another frozen for "spamming" - was just having a fun board - not overly bumping/saying someone or something died, nothing like that. Just late night little bit of goofing around - and it was a regular who got iced.

My understanding is that if you're warned for the same thing 2 times, the second time you are frozen for continuing to break the rules. The timeline doesn't matter - could be months later, so I think you would be wise to just stay away from those Simon Says or anything like it completely. I don't know - I've gotten one warning for typing ebay on my guild message board, so I'm like insanely careful and I now copy and paste into an email to myself when I do post things (and who/what I'm responding to), just in case I need backup or proof.

I've never participated in one of those Simon Says myself, but I have seen alot of them when I lurk on the AC for hints on new avs.

Yeah, on my now frozen account, I had 2 warnings, I had to be VERY CAREFUL.

And I got frozen...for doing something, not having 3 warnings.

Stay away from the Neoboards, avoid chatting with people you don't know, and stay away from being famous! xD
