I was also bothered by a "SHOOT Bugs Bunny and get free Looney Tunes cursors." Woah, woah, woah...SHOOT BUGS BUNNY!?!?!

If I were little, I'd be depressed out of my mind about the idea of killing Bugs Bunny. :cry:

Ha, you know...any other time I would be in complete agreement with you. I've always been a fan of Bugs. But ever since my cursor started blinking and being a problem because of his ad.....

....well, let's just say the bunny better watch his back. He's starting to annoy me with changing my cursor. I can't take that much longer :evil:

In case anyone didn't notice the other topic about the top ads (click here), here's a way I posted to get rid of them and get rid of the white space in IE.

To block in IE, open up Notepad. Copy and paste the following into it:

Code:
div.ban,div#ban {
display: none !important;
}

Save as a .css file and be sure it's somewhere you remember. (That's the most important.) I saved mine as neopets.css.

Next, open up IE. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Accessibility. Under "user style sheet", check off "Format documents using my style sheet." Next, Browse for your saved file. Click "OK". "OK" again, and then go to a Neopets page. It should disappear.

I found this method in the Neocolours forum. (But I saw it such a long time ago, the above is in my own words) Though the user who posted it has escaped my mind at the moment...

Val, have you seen the anti-smoking ad yet? That one will creep you out for days! I have a very dark (some say twisted) sense of humor and that ad is like Eeeek! It's just eyes - sewn shut with like thick black thread (well thicker than thread) and there's a scalpel hovering by them with something like "learn the truth" (don't remember exact words) written on the scalpel.

All I could think of was the night HBO showed the Ring and there were zillions of boards with kids too scared to sleep, having to have tvs removed from their rooms, etc. That ad seems like it would be that kind of scary to certain people, especially younger ones.

That freaky loony toons ad - they have GOT to get rid of that thing. Everyone hates it, and if you make the mistake of going there, do NOT d/l anything - full of spyware you don't want to have to try to get rid of.

Yes, have seen the psychic ad too. That makes me sad that they'd put an ad like that in rotation.

I think? actually that the ads people see are based, at least in part, on the age group you signed up as. Most of the big banner ad networks work that way to target specific groups. Neo itself may have some say over a particular ad (like the weather one that had the pop-up that's now gone? YAY Adam! :) ), but in general I don't know if once a business signs up with one of these networks if they can really pick and choose - say all toy stores, something like that.

Oh aeman, if you're reading this - I got a warning for just typing the word ebay on my guild message board myself. And one of our members here got a warning then frozen for typing ebay. That, according to Adam, has changed. But I don't know that the person frozen has gotten their account back. They most certainly should!

Considering that it's the name of a movie that's widely advertised and probably rated PG or PG-13, not really... I mean, it's not as if it's a curseword, and if you don't already know that it's similar to a curseword, then it's perfectly innocent.

I wanna see that movie xD but yeah, you have a point :D

Well, it is the name of a movie, that's true. But I would NOT try typing it anywhere on the site. It's just way too close to something else and it may well be misunderstood or a monitor (or bot) may think you're trying to type something else and getting around a filter.

I mean, until we kind of ganged up on poor Adam one night (who didn't know people were getting warned/frozen for this) - I, along with other people were warned (and one FROZEN) for typing just the word ebay.

So yeah, be careful!

Forget all that. I just got a banner ad for AARP!!!!! Are they trying to imply I am too old to play Neo? HAH! Oh whoa I felt sick there for a minute, it reminded me of when I was 25 and saw some of my childhood toys in an antique store. Not that they qualified to be antiques...but still, heh, I flipped.

Maybe the AARP ads are for the lil'uns playing Neo at the grandparent's house under supervision. I don't know. I don't care. I just don't want to be reminded that I will be an AARP member while I am playing a game LOL (okay not for another 30+ years, but still... -.-)

Earlier today I saw a banner that said "This is not a banner."

I was like, well then what the heck is it? A wedge of cheese?

Wed Dec 22, 2004 6:12 am

:roflol: I have NOT seen the AARP banner - yet. I can't believe some of these ads! Of course, I did just get a letter with a membership application for AARP, so I really don't need to see a banner ad rubbing it in my face that I'm OLD :cry:

Be careful - depending on your security settings, there's one ad that shows up blank with that little square with the 3 little colored things? On my computer I get a pop-up asking if I want to run Active X. I of course click No, then get another microsoft IE message

Your current security settings prohibit running Active X controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.

If you right click on it, then properties, it's for ad.partner-source.com Many spywares get onto your computer via Active X, as well as good things, like your a/v updates, spybot, etc.
