I know the spardel really closely resembles a real life dog breed, but I can't for the life of me remember which one it is!

Hmmm, that may be correct. I remember once someone was complaining that the spardel was making fun of people with lazy eyes or something and there was a dog someone posted to debunk their claim that looked just like the spardel. I don't remember what it was anymore, though. The terrier is very close, though!
