And this is how PP repays them? Gosh, how classy of them.

Upon further reflection...
if Neopets posted something along the lines of this, can you imagine the outcry? Think about how many people would be whining and whinging about how Neo had attacked someone.
But because this is PowerPets, and not Neopets... obviously no ones thinking along those lines. Theres a reason Neos the best, and thats because they've got more tact then this.

As long as furry-paws.com doesn't sink to this level, I'm happy.
Whats the URL for power pets?

you are exactly right. if neopets took a cheapshot like that, people would flip out, and rightly so. there should be certain things that public websites are above. a blog-style, whiny potshot like this should be one of them. i believe neopets is above that, and i doubt they will publicly respond.

I joined Powerpets back when it was like, in beta. I have some of the oldest pets on it. The pets were drawn in a cool sketchy style and it had some fantasy to it. But a few months later they redraw the pets so they're cel-shaded (which really doesn't work with realism) and make it a fricken educational family-friendly site with real animals. That and it's way too easy to make money. Bah. I hate it.

Aaaanyway, that's real stupid of Powerpets. They can hate Neopets all they want, but actually saying it isn't exactly the wisest of ideas. Nope, not at all. I hope they get lots of haters and people start to leave Powerpets, haha.

No offensee to anyone but am I among the minority that isn't spazzing out over this? You now, this is a satire. I really wouldn't call it a cheap-shot, which is considerably harsh.
I mean, why hasn't the Pink Poogle Toy's description been brought up? Don't you think that's a bit equal in the "cruel" humor of the Powerpets article?

Tue Dec 07, 2004 4:20 am

Might I note that it is an honour to be placed on the Pink Poogle Toy's description? That was a fun, a little tease they did. That's for sure.

I really didn't see the humour in that article. If you could point it out to me, I'd be glad to see it, but all I saw were big negatives.

It's been mentioned (see the 133700 thread) and many of the people here on the forum think it's a way of TNT acknowledging that PPT has complaint about the website. Not many really find it horribly offensive.

The description just says: This lovely pink poogle moans about banner ads and frozen accounts when you squeeze it! :P

It's not saying anything incredibly hurtful about PPT such as that satire article on the Powerpress was. It's just gently poking fun at the site.

who's "spazzing out?" :> the pink poogle toy description was in good humour, this article obviously wasn't.

Ha. That made me laugh.

But even though I played when it was in Beta (thanks to PPT), I lost interest in it very quickly. I think that this attack was very immature of that, but I do realize that they were losing people who thought that Neopets was better...

Oh, well, I hope a potential lawsuit doesn't arise from this... or can one? =/ I'd ask my sister but she's asleep.

I don't think there can be. Once a person steps into public view, the media can have free reign on saying whatever they want. It's freedom of speech. So I think that this would also apply to very public websites like Neopets.

Tue Dec 07, 2004 5:02 am

Well, it's also kind of slander, which isn't protected by the first amendment. o_O Since they don't TECHNICALLY name the *other* site... o_O

Tue Dec 07, 2004 5:05 am

People say all kinds of nasty things about politians and celebrities but no lawsuits are filed. It's because once you enter the public view as someone "famous" people are allowed to criticize you, your actions, etc. No matter how horrible and slandaerous as it may be, it is not something you can sue over.

They (PP) didn't name names, so it's just implied that they ARE referring to Neopets. They could go to court and say that they meant some other Virtual Pets website and Neopets, Inc is just jumping to arrogant conclusions.

It just occured to me that since it's written, it's considered liable not slander (which is spoken).

I could be very horribly wrong about this- I am not a lawyer or an aspiring one but am a Forensic Science/Criminal justice major. *shrugs*

I don't think that that article is quite at a suable level and I doubt Powerpets is dumb enough to get itself into a lawsuit over something so lame.

Tue Dec 07, 2004 5:27 am

You're right; it is libel. :P
