I'm gussing this goes in the libary, speaking its about books and is for fans of the books, but it might not be. If not, please move.

Our rating system:
E-I lived through it. Characters not terribly OCC, plot is mostly intact.
G-I gaged a few times. OCC characters, plot chopped up.
S-Pass the barf bag. Characters terribly OCC, plot not at all true to book.
N-Oh my gawd. Characters share nothing but names(if even that) plot barely recogizable.
B-This never should of happen. This isn't even the book More like the worst fanfiction I have ever seen. No, worse.

The Victim: Ella Enchanted
The Crimal: ??????
Original plot verse Movie plot: Well, there's this whole evil-usurper-oppressing-the-elves thing out of nowhere, just for starters. And then there's Char's fan club, and the disturbingly modern, comedic touch... do I NEED to go ON?
OCC characters: Char and Ella act like they're straight out of a teen chick flick. What's WRONG with a charming fairy-tale romance? It's the only romance I actually enjoy in entertainment.... Also, Ella doesn't get any loopholes in her orders, and her curse is really obvious. Complete with golden sparkles.
New things: Too Many To Count
Final verdict: We need an author's rights movement. Badly.
Rating: N to B

The Victim: The Princess Diaries
The Crimal: Disney!
Original plot verse Movie plot: In the book Mia finds out she's a princess, her mom dates her algebra teacher, her grandmother makes only shrewd comments to her, she's in love with Mike but Josh takes her to the dance and Libby looses her friendship. In the movie, the grandmother is a sweetheart and it gets a Disney makeover.
OCC characters: Grandmere. They make her sweet, it's ridiculous! And Libby's IQ in the movie drops about 100 points, as well as Mia's.
New things: Mia gets a make-over that makes her look good. Erlak a pongos. Figures.
Final verdict: A curse, a curse on both your houses!
Rating: B

According to my somewhat generous ratings, that would make a high S. And I've both read the book and seen the movie, although I saw the movie first. Anyway, it's not the sinkhole that Ella Enchanted was.

Time to redeem my wasteful post...

The Victim: Dune
The Criminal: David Lynch
Original plot versus Movie plot: There's the fact the Jihad is actually a kind of bad thing, believe it or not, but, that colossal fact aside, the plot is preserved pretty well, considering this is David Lynch.
OCC characters: Gurney Halleck has NONE of the fire he had in the book. Though maybe Patrick Stewart was kind of distracting in the role. Harkonnen's sons are smarter than that - yes, Rabban too. And no, Lynch, Alia is NOT a gleeful murdering psychopath. Paul isn't enough of a jerk. Mainly it's Halleck that bugs me, though.
New things: Hawat doesn't have any significance - he's just told in a Lynchian way to milk a cat for antidote and left dangling. Lots of David Lynch grotesque fluff.
Final verdict: Eh, Frank Herbert sure was happy about it. And it was more than recognizable. Still, there IS that Jihad thing.
Rating: Low G

Wow, its alive! I haven't seen/watched Dune, but Ella Enchanted and The Princess Diaries I have both seen and read...And I like the books better.

And look out for the new Lemony Snikect movies, looks not really good to me, somehow I'll have to be draged to it anyhow.

I know people are going to try to drag me to that...butI'd sooner eat poison. I get the feeling they'll make the Ella Enchanted movie look good.

I like Ella Enchanted.. and The Princess Diaries. It is what the series could have been, taking away some things that were not really needed. (Example would be chest measuring and cussing.)

I really cannot defend Ella Enchanted, however. Might have to look into that.

However, that is what made the series. It was not kid's books, it was for teens, and Disney completely changed that.

The Victim: The Lord of the Rings (supposedly all of it)
The Crimal: Ralph Bakshi
Original plot verse Movie plot: Come on, everybeast. We ALL know the original plot. Frodo's struggle against the ring, Samwise's struggle to help him stay alive, Aragorn's path to become king, Gandal'f fall, Wormtongue's treachery, Shelob's Tunnel, Dernhelm's Fell surprise, The End of the Ring...

Movie plot: Fat dude drools over ring. Tall dude with cloth wig takes it. Other fat dude with 70's hairdo gets it, does Happy Dance. Gandalf milks a giant cow. Sam resembles a dying mushroom with teeth. Merry and Pippin have no importance. Boromir has no pants! Viking!sauron!
Book Saruman thinks he's doing the right thing.
Movie Saruman thinks he's Santa Claus.

Book Ringwraiths make nature recoil in their presence.
Movie ringwraiths make fans recoil in their presence. Plus funky leper dance.

B: Gondor has no king.
M: Gondor has no pants... or much of a mention, come to that.

B: Eowyn I am, daughter of Eomund!
M: Mmmmmph! (Eowyn I am... person with no lines!)

B: Wormtongue: Traitorous and lustful
M: Traitorous to the job of voice-acting, also is a Jawa.

B: Everything after Helm's Deep: Is really exciting.
M: Everything after Helm's Deep: Is non-existant.

OCC characters: Ouch. Gandalf... is... Dancing man! Sam is the Amazing Talking Mushroom! Boromir wants to be a viking! (Have they no whetstones in Lorien?) Aragorn is a flasher, I swear (Displays frightening amount of leg at Prancing Pony) Gimli acts and looks like one of the Seven Dwarves, and Merry has no importance whatsoever. Whyyyy?!?!
And um, treebeard spits leaves. Which is scary.
New things: I swear Flight to the Ford didn't take so long. Really.
Also... this is how the Orcs and the Rohirrim do battle.
1. Orcs stand in line facing a line or Rohirrim.
2. They both wait a bit.
3. Eomer or someone rides down the line and shoots an orc.
4. Orc captain tells them "No shooting- wasting arrows"
5. Repeat for a VERY LONG TIME. Finally they realize "Hey. I just realized. They killed ten of us. GET EM!"

On the plus side, Merry getting Black Breathed by the two Nazgul was VERY cool.

But the Balrog appears to be a guy in a paper-mache lion mask and fluffy bedroom slippers.
Final verdict: Please, kill me- no wait, Bakshi, not me- Now.

I forgot to mention, they alternate a lot between "Saruman" and "aruman"...

now were being jsut a bit harsh to the animated LOTR's arent we eo, it did afterall...ummm....hmmm.
well the ringwraiths were cool, and we didnt have to endure "t3h sup4r 4rmay of t3h d3d!!111shiftfivetwoeleven" that was in the film version.
seriously, i half expected legolas to pull out a lightsabre, hack open the mumaks chest and chuck in a thermal detonator.
or maybe ive watched the empire strikes back too many times.
oh and glorfindal was still in the animated one, a balrog killing super elf is way cooler than the woman with a combined three lines in the entire trilogy.

Point taken. I understand this.. I guess they just wanted to make a kid friendly version?

I guess I was being a little biased. Sorry. I guess I wouldn't like it if they took a book I liked and messed with it..

The Victim: Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
The Criminal: The director and screenwriter
Original plot verse Movie plot: Book plot: Harry is stuck with the dursleys untill he blows up his aunt marge, runs away, goes to school, yadda yadda yadda.
Movie plot: Harry is at the dursleys for 2 seconds, blows up his aunt, acts like teh 4ngst!!111!!!shift331337!11!
OCC characters: Hermione, Dumbledore, most characters
New things: shrunken head, AnGsT!!11!Harry

Final verdict: Sucked, I hated it.

It's not like we could expect anything else from Disney. =)

It's fine, I just wanted to point it out...there wouldn't be much interest in the books if they followed the movies. (Well, I never could make myself watch the second, but...)

Wow. Brave for you to do that for a such a well loved movie, Eo. Good job. At least they didn't cut Gimli and Legolas so the Orcs were cute in cudly and had a musical number like one verison.
