I'm sorry, but I really think that is a bunch of Kau Droppings. TNT, Adam and Donna all have a choice in this. If these sponsors want in on Neopets, they have to abide to what TNT wants. Instead, TNT is abiding to what others WANT them to do. They always have a choice. There is always a choice.
All this is going to go is cause problems. Problems the players don't want. Many of us I believe do not like our username, active pet and our amount of NP's on the top. It was a great deal easier to glance to our left and see how much we have in order to buy that item from Kaurva's Shop. But we have to scroll to the top in order to see if we have enough, and by that time we've lost the item.
And why do we need to know if we have kidney problems from Kidneysource.com? I'm serious. I know that there are many, many adult players on here. But there are HEALTH sites in order for that, not child-oriented sites. Seriously, you say you "Don't have a choice in the matter." ? That is farfetch'd in my mind, and I'm convinced many others.
I'm almost compelled to write a letter to TNT and mail it if I can get the address (if anyone has it, PM it to me please? (If it's allowed of course, not trying to break rules.)) and invite anyone else from PPT to do so. But I haven't made my decesion yet. But I do notice is effecting my gameplay.
As you see I'm very passionate about this for I think TNT went against it's players and did not ask them about it. Instead they sprung a Avatar to make people happy. TNT could have posted something in the news, a poll of sorts, where when you check it you have to vote on the matter.
"Do you want to see a larger banner at the top? You're opinions matter to us so please vote in this poll."
But they didn't. And won't. It's preety bad. Five years of loyal players and they can't even ask if we want it or not.
You've enjoyed "Two Cents" by Charlie Grimes, AKA Slime Lord (Whta1 on Neopets). You can find him East of Meridell in Slime Tower. Please, be wary of the Oozing Chia Guards that protect the Tower though.
(Sorry for my compalining, but I really believe TNT has more power over the people who wants to be a sponsor of Neopets. Cause if you do want to be a sponsor, you're very smart. But TNT is not for falling to this. I don't see any other sites with banners this large because they "have" too.)

I for one like the name, np, and active pet being at the top, I don't need to scroll to see it on my low-resolution laptop. Granted I dont restock but when I used to, I just made sure I had enough np out so I didn't have to constantly look.

...I'm loving the AdBlock on FireFox. Anyone that's wondering about it: It works great, you see each ad once - then click to never see it again. Eventually, the whole site is ad-free!
To find it, go to the http://www.getfirefox.com/ - click on Extensions on the right side, and then use Most Popular to find it.

I hate that Firefox can't block all the adds.
I might go back to using IE.
After I have my Operation Secret Santa I am quitting neopets.
I can't stand the huge adds.
I can't stand no borders on items.
I can't stand no borders on scratchcards.
Neopets didn't "have to" make bigger banners.
There was a choice.
All they wanted to do was make more money.

Perhaps... just... perhaps I am strange.
I just don't care about this. It's not that I no longer care about Neopets, but the banner to me is an inconvenience causing a slight move of the scroll button on my mouse. Nothing more.
I don't honestly care about the new banner. It doesn't affect me for better or for good. And I am completely indifferent to it.
But that... I do believe... is just me.

...but Firefox does block all the ads for me. Did you download AdBlock and restart the browser and then go to tools to get it working?
Maybe it won't make you feel better, but the AdBlock really should work!

Er, actually, you shouldn't have to block each ad individually at all.

Firefox here, adblock here. And if you want the alt text to pop up when you mouse over an item in your inventory or a shop, you'll need this.

I don't want to have to d/l a different browser just for one site. I resent that. I just do. I practice the safest surfing possible. Have 2 anti-spyware detector/removers, spywareblaster to try to stop them before they hit, a/v, cookies set to block thrid party cookies, clear cookies and temp internet after any site is visited, regularly check temp setting to be sure nothing I didn't d/l is in my d/l programs.
Right now, I can't get mystery island page to even load. Just the banner ad and a blank page. I need to get to the school to get my pet out, but no way to do it.
I'm so frustrated.

The offsite adds have completely random urls now.
So I can't block those.

See, this is what I am talkinga bout. It is causing problems for it's players.
Now yes, some of you don't mind it and have thigns to block it, which is great. But we shouldn't have to even consider blocking these things and downloading other programs in order to block it.
This is not why we play Neopets for. We play Neopets because it's a great site with good people. But TNT has chosen a VERY bad route to do this and take this up on...

I'm with you. The banner doesn't affect me one way or the other. Ok so it is unattractive, but otherwise whatever..I don't even really look at it. I do miss the neopoints and name on the side though.
