I'm trying to remember the arguments agaisnt ad blockers an old BBS I used to go to made....I think the ads work two fold....since people rarely click on them unless it intregues them....So I think revenue comes from the ad being on the page, and then more comes from clicking on it.....since I remember that the members and I of that old BBS rarely clicked on the banner ads, that some money must come from the banner just showing up (side note: guessing here, since on that BBS, ad blockers were "illegal" since it stopped revenue)....

I don't know if it's still that way, since my old experience with said BBS was um....1999-2002ish....so it is a bit outdated.

edit: Oops, I thought the person above me was asking how they work, not if they work...I suppose for "if they work": similiar way, the companies pay for the ad to appear....similar to a television commercial?

It's a horrible dream...the reality is that this is the Slot plot!!!!! :P

It could be much worse. It's not half bad as it is. They obviously are planning ahead for the future. They could dump a zillion ads on us, skim off the cash, and leave Neo to rot in the dot com graveyard. But that's not the case and it's evident that they plan to keep Neopets alive forever.

For those questioning the amount of money Neo pulls in each year, you also have to take into account the future uses they need moolah for. Video games, movies, whatever else they have planned...it ain't gonna happen without a little cash advance. And if you're going to run imaginary numbers, try and dig up a few facts that we can sink our teeth into because otherwise it's just making stuff up and there isn't much help in that.

There's a picture on top of every page as you know, telling you which page you are on (for example, there's a Bleh banner on the page they released this news) That banner is covering quite some space. So what can be done is that that banner can be made a little transparent and they can make it stay behind the text. Or even better, instead of making a banner, they can make a background that tells you which page you are on.
I just switched back and forth between the new banner page and the old one and I realised that we will be saving much more space than the new ad took, if we get rid of that neopets page banner. What do you people think?

I suggested this in my other topic, but not too many people agreed with it. It's just that the page banner is almost a tradition on neopets today, so for all the old-day players who have learned to love and live with the page banner, I suggested resizing it. But then it was locked :(

Right now, it just looks clunky with the new banner. It seems almost out of place. Plus, having that little banner is sort of helpful sometimes. I got a brain-fart before and forgot what I was doing. I looked up, saw the Pet Central banner and thought "Ahh, thats right! Put items in shop!" I don't know why it reminded me of that, it just did :P

Anyway, back on track. Maybe making it half size, or even smaller, whilst still being readable, would be a good idea.

EDIT: Just so there's no mixup, I'm talking about this banner

not the super annoying one

To me, a banner is just a banner, no big deal. It is at the very top, most out of the way, nothing pops up, and after a while, you forget it is there, the resizing is almost better, because, like they said, they can focus more on the site.

Red cordials happen, teh0mega -- no problem.

Blame it on the red cordial.
Sorry about the mistake

EDIT: There, all fixed :D

This is hilarious. I've been pining for this BLEH avatar for ages and the day it is released is the day I make buttered asparagus and chicken for dinner :)

...The giant ad suddenly stopped appearing on my IE. All I see is the top of my Halloween Sidebar, my name/pet/money, and a blank space above it. o_O

hehe, first they get us excited with the Bleh avatar then they give us the bad news.., or maybe they were aniticpating our reaction to the news 'Bleh" is very apt.

I think if i adjust my screen to the 1000 then it could fit in the shop better. But i really don't care if they add they banner, i'd just rather have the name and nps at the side than the top. And if its going to help improve things on the site, who not, more goodies for us..but i do think they have to make it up to us with more than an avatar *coughhiddentoweradventitemscough* :D

Well, at least they haven't applied the changes... yet. I really hate to have such a clunky ad banner advertising Neopets' own site (I seldom ever see outside ads, for some reason). Firefox better work as Adam says it would...

Congrats, TNT, I was going to live with the smaller ads but now I am downloading the ad blocker on Firefox. I guess I should've done it a long time ago, but the smaller banner ads didn't bother me. Now if only there was a way to put the NP and pet status back where it belongs.

Though I do prefer banners to pay-to-play. I can always block the banners.

I'm switching to Firefox permanently me thinks if the ads do appear. No way I'm going to be dealing with them. I've been looking for an impetus to make a permanent switch, now this will force me to do it.

If im not mistaking, IE now has a popup blocker, and its extremely nice I may add, I updated it with service pack 2, and it installed a nifty popup blocker, and it works extremely well I may add!

Finally something made me install Firefox....
But the ad blocking doesn't seem to be working.
How do I turn ad blocking on?

I have pop ups from Neopets allowed though, we'll see what happens, I could be completely wrong.
