everconfused, I'm not a Premium user and I don't get offsite ads either. I just conducted an experiment on it. I sat on the Neopets.com main page and refreshed 75 times, and the only ads that appeared were for Illusen's Glade, Petpet Sitter, the Auction House, Dice Escape, Potato Counter, Moon Rock Rampage, the Tax Beast, Turmac Roll, Grundo (the band :P), HatIC TCG, The Online Catalogue, Hasee Bounce, the NT, Meepit Juice Break, Warf Rescue, and Mynci Beach Volleyball. I got multiples of almost each of them, but no offsite ads at all. It's been this way ever since the topbanner was implemented. I don't know what's different about me (I use IE, but I do have a couple different popup blockers installed), but I count myself lucky. :)

The only thing that bugs me about the Game Ads is that they slow down my flash games, but other than that I don't care about them at all.

Slightly OT: Adam, are you going to update the news today? Or will we have to wait until Thanksgiving holidays are over?

Or...you can just change your country to Antarctica - when I changed my country to that, I never got a off-site ad again :P

lol I can't believe Antartica is even an option. Tis silly. xD

I actually like having the login information at the top.

However, I'm very discouraged about the fact that, like the old banners, the page apparently does not move up when the ads are blocked. I have to scroll enough when playing Neoquest as it is.

I don't mind that new layout. It's pretty good, but I'm worried about lag because I'm using Dial-Up. The one thing I don't like about the layout itself is the fact that with the ad, it sort of looks...incomplete. As mentioned before, I think there should be some sort of line going up to the top of the page from the right end or the top bar.

I haven't "clicked here" yet and so I still have the same old banner. I could give a hoot about getting an av and don't really want a huge mega banner that sings and dances, etc.--so, I am not clicking anything unless I absolutely have to.

So, what happens to those of us who refuse to "click here?"

It just lets you look at a mockup and explanation. They haven't implemented the new banner yet for anyone. :)

When you click here it just takes you too a page where you have the new banner, but all the other pages on the site still have the current banner. They'll switch everyone overl eventually, this is just a preview.

Ah, just great. So, basically, they are just testing us in order to get feedback on this mockup. Oh well, I might as well click then--like the good little user that I am--and try to get used to it.

Thanks for giving me the heads up, rageaholic and atomic blonde.

EDIT: I clicked. Criminy, it's huge!

And, I do not like the nps shown at the top at all! Anyone who cruises the shop wiz, like I do, will realize just how bad that is. When I refresh on the shop wiz, I never see the top of the page--I get a teeny flash of it, but only really see the shop wiz. And, if you are buying on the shop wiz for any length of time, you often cannot remember exactly how many nps you have out. You don't want to get into a shop looking for something else, see a maraquan PB priced at 99999, and not be able to see how many nps you have out. It will be a royal pain to have to check the top of the screen to see if you have enough nps out--and by then, you might have lost the PB. Having the nps on the side bar, you can see exactly how much you have on hand before going into someone's shop and jump quickly to the bank to get more, just in case you don't have enough out.

I don't think they can do that. As far as I can tell, these ads don't use neopet webspace, which means that pretty much, the coding of those ads is out of their hands....so no warning thing.

I worry about young kids clicking on banners that will lead to sites that ad bomb you and DL horrid stuff to your computer and everything :(.

I don't think there is a security threat regarding spyware. I've been keeping close tallys of the ads that do pop up for me, and looked over it, and haven't found any illegal attempts to access my computer (considering my firewall rocks...it lets me know when anything wants to get to my computer, or off of it...or if a program wants to start....it takes me at least 5 minutes to get IE up and running because of this beautiful firewall).

Only thing the ads do cause is an eyesore....ugh! Makes me want to cry!

edit: Okay....some sponsor ads are indeed on the neopets server, some are not...most are not.

They can't make a banner large enough that Mozilla can't block! Neopets is . . .really. . not too bright.

I wouldn't mind the big one so much if they got rid of the little one too. Soon it's gonna be *BIG HONKING AD* ittybitty content

I feel like I'm corrupted.

I really don't mind the new ad as it reallymatters very little to me. As long as they don't make the banners ridiculously big and start pop-ups, I'm not gonna complain. Instead, I think there might be a way to shorten the top of the page.
There's a picture on top of every page as you know, telling you which page you are on (for example, there's a Bleh banner on the page they released this news) That banner is covering quite some space. So what can be done is that that banner can be made a little transparent and they can make it stay behind the text. Or even better, instead of making a banner, they can make a background that tells you which page you are on.
I just switched back and forth between the new banner page and the old one and I realised that we will be saving much more space than the new ad took, if we get rid of that neopets page banner. What do you people think?

No need to be insulting. 'Suntrue anyway. TNT knows there are ad blockers (if you've read this whole thread, you saw Adam unofficially nudge folks in the direction of Mozilla's Firefox, whose Ad Blocker is why my family and I are still on Neopets).

Neopets is playing the game. Advertisers pay to put the ads on the site . . . and Neopets still gets paid if we ignore/block the ads, whether by using programs like the above, just scrolling down past the banner, or literally pasting something across the top of our computer monitors. :roflol:

(Of those options, I recommend getting an Ad Blocker.)

I got Firefox today (with the adblock extension) and it's been working splendidly. No more ads! The site is running much faster than normal for me (and the games are, too!). Now I don't mind the new banner. ;)

Do banner ads even work? How many people here ever click them? I very, very rarely do. I suppose, though, that even if one out of every 100 people clicks one, that's still profitable for the company. Bah.
