Most of the real-life ads are from the infamous view.atdmt.com. The very annoying piece of junk website that seems to generate tons of ads and uses Macromedia Flash. (at least... as far as I can tell... I'm going to do research on it now)

Edit: yeah, atdmt.com is an adware thinger that generates the real-life ads. And as far as I can tell, Spybot S&D and AdAware do not remove it.

notanderson, I just checked Spybot and spywareblaster and you're right ... for some odd reason neither Atlas or atdmt is listed. Maybe this should be brought up to the folks at netintegration - that atdmt be added to the list.

I have atdmt on my restricted sites in Security in my internet settings, and I have third party cookies blocked in my privacy advanced cookie handling. So hopefully those won't find their way to me. I have also seen tribalfusion ads and imrworldwide - which is part of RedSheriff. That one can be nasty depending on the version.

To the more technically inclined:

that should be helpful.

Yes, many of the old timers here have seen more than one of my rants about the numerous lost items/shop rollback/TP blunders I have been subjected to. In fact, I think Tonu (where art thou, my dear friend?) and I hold the record for most lost item glitches--well, at least the record for most complaining about them! Although amarise (another lost PPT soul) probably suffered the most when her shop was set back 2 days in late Spring. Possibly ystava also--when a great deal of her shop disappeared in June/July and never, ever returned.

EDIT: everconfused, you kept the sig? Aw, you are too sweet. Knives, in case you weren't around, everconfused made that sig for me a few months ago after I experienced three major glitches in one day. First, I lost my BTY plushie (ace zafara) to a glitch--99999 thrown to the wind. Then, my secondary account got set back two days--anything put into, bought, sold by that shop during those two days was gone. I lost a lot from that one. And, then my advent calendar gallery disappeared (though it did eventually come back). Ah, the good old days! I seem to remember that was the same weekend that all of the petpets and all SDBs disappeared!

Yes, it pops up as a cookie when visiting the site. And, it is atdmt.com. That, along with tribalfusion.com, doubleclick.net and a few others. I run Pest Patrol while I am visiting Neo and I am able to find all sorts of cookies stuck to me while on Neo. Particularly when refreshing a lot of Neo.

Lost PPT soul? I joined up the day after PPT came back. :P Just haven't been posting too much. ;) Yes, and I remember that day. 400+ items was NOT fun. Although people on PPT do tend to speak a little louder about glitches, we are usually more courteous and most are VERY well-spoken. (Especially you, morning. Some of your posts have been good enough to make national debate teams. ;) )

Nah, not lost forever, amarise, just that I have not seen you around here lately. Though your mental telepathy is mind-boggling, I swear. I think of you and two seconds later, here you are. Hope you are doing OK.

 Well, less mind-reading, and more finally getting the computer now that my bro's off. ;) Yep, doing fine, actually went back to neo after a short hiatus. I've actually gotten glitched since the big one, but nothing I didn't make back. I'm more working on the Mole (PPT), which is why I haven't posted much. :P

On-topic, I haven't noticed any spyware since the new top banner was added, but that's mainly due to the fact that I habitually avoid clicking on banners that look like spyware. I know this has probably been mentioned, but thanks for taking down that one screensaver banner. It's nice to know you're keeping track of these things. :)

I get the spyware and I never click on the banners. I have a setting on IE that makes a noise when a cookie attaches. And, I keep a Pest Patrol window open while playing Neo--if I refresh it, it tells me of all of the cookies that have attached themselves while playing Neo.

By the way, good to see you back, amarise. :)

EDIT: By the way, the average person might not notice the spyware too much or might not even get hit with it. Perhaps I am more suspectible because I refresh a lot on the shop wiz.

And, Adam, just to let you know, some of those tracking cookies have been on your site for months. Red Sheriff and atdmt, most definitely. A fellow PPTer pointed them out to me with screen shots several months ago. At first, I did not believe her and figured she must have picked up something somewhere else. Now I know better (I didn't have Pest Patrol back then).

I'm baaaack

Morningstar, I can't get pestpatrol to work on my computer, don't know why. But I do have Spybot, ad-aware and spywareblaster, plus my cookies set to accept first party, block third party.

I had asked around re: the adware tracking cookie thing and how it just will show up without clicking an ad. What I was told (as far as I understand it) I posted here: http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... ht=#171392

Waves HI! to Borovan :) I hope you're feeling better.

I did PM you with a view source of a tribalfusion ad and a link to the ss I had taken of some ads.

Yes, I found a couple of things awhile back too. Mainly because of my settings, kept getting weird privacy reports and finally clicked on one of them.

OK, here's hoping that whatever's going on with the computer is now fixed - it keeps shutting itself down then restarting - apparently some kind of driver problem. My roomie/best friend has been wanting to log into her account, but I end up having to tell her to sign out of her s/n so I can try to fix whatever's going on. I feel badly, she doesn't get that much time on the computer as it is - we have had a few arguments (not severe) over who gets computer time. Hehehe, I tend to win, cause it's my computer.

Ew, I hope you get that fixed. I had the same problem right after the hurricane hit here, and it turned out I had a serious problem with my motherboard... $200 to fix. Bleh. Hope you find a cheaper solution!

To add to the list of tiny glitches on Neopets, I'm still getting those blank "Something Has Happened!" RE's... is anyone else? I'd imagine I'm not the only one.

Johnny, don't think it's the MOBO - though there is a driver update for that on the Microsoft site - going to talk to the tech before I go installing that though ... it did test out fine at the shop. I think? it may be my scanner. I just d/l and installed a driver update for that (over the old driver, it would not uninstall). So, here's hoping ... I wanted to get the actual computer log in stuff set up for the 2 of us, because right now everything (cookies, etc.) are coming up with my name - could be a problem re: we both have accounts on Neo, but I don't want to do anything until I know the actual computer is working 100% right.

Adam? If you're here ... Is that going to be a problem? 2 of us on the same computer - different emails, no access to each others' accounts, but all cookies are coming up (in my cookies folder) with my name.

Alot of people are getting that weird "something has happened" with no event or image showing. Some people are having something happen - finding something in or missing from their inventory, np added or subtracted ... others are seeing no change in anything. Sounds kind of random as far as the effect of the the RE, but the actual RE? Yes, that seems to be broken.

I don't have any problem with banners or lagging, but I noticed that the shop wizard sometimes crashes IE. When searching for items and refreshing the page, it sometimes takes a very long time to load, and then just freezes. It's not just my computer, it happened on other computers too.

Secondly, I think that the main shops don't restock "roughly 8 times an hour". When I restock, I see 4-5 restocks an hour most of the time... see also this http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8720 topic

Just a note about tracking cookies, spy/malware.

You don't have to download or even surf to get any of those. The newest, nastiest incarnations of the above mentioned, can be mass broadcasted to IP ranges. That means anyone online at the time, using a certain ISP or in a certain country, can be hit. Some spoof where they've come from to match the sites you're actively surfing, or the sites in your bookmarks/favourites.

I'm not saying that the findings in the privacy reports in the posts above are wrong, but keep in mind there's a distinct possibilty some weird stuff may show up on your computer, seeming to come from Neo, when infact you've been a random target from elsewhere.

Broadband users are at the highest risk. Even with a good firewall and security updates, there's still a major problem, because large packages of spy/malware download practically instantly without notification. Dial-Up users are more likely to notice the 1mb malware bomb packages downloading themselves, (there probably won't be any notification specifically that they're downloading, but the lag should be a tip off that something's up), and have a couple minutes to find a way to block the transfer.

As an example: About a month ago, I was hit by a large malware bomb. The filesize was about 700kb. It's not something I downloaded purposely or by mistake. Infact, I was in bed, and woke up to find my computer going crazy the next morning. All I'd done is left my computer running with the connection on. The bomb had installed 30+ applications, resulting in 600+ related objects, scattering themselves everywhere in my computer. The majority were data-miners, but there were some very nasty ones in there, including trojan class. It took about 4 hours and tons of scans to clean up, and I still had to manually remove the last dozen or so objects from the registry. I mentioned about a week later to my sister what an awful time I'd had with the thing, and she said that about half the computers at her university had also suffered something similar at around the same time. It turns out a lot of people in this area had a similar problem.

In short, be careful any time you're online. Take the power of firewalls, bot removers, and privacy reports with a grain of salt.
