Well, I believe you can give away accounts (for free), it isn't stated in the rules that you can't and how could TNT know anyway?

I would suggest giving them to a good friend or two. If the friend gives a gift in return, who's to say anything about it? Not me.

5. You may not sell, trade, give or buy a Neopets account or pets for Neopoints, money, Neopets' Items, or anything else.

(underline is my emphasis) ... no, you can't give an account away either. I guess maybe if you were to give one of your accounts to say, a sibling, with just a change of email it might be ok? You can't change the dob though, and if you gave an account to someone let's say in a different state or something, they'd more than likely have a completely different IP address -- so Neo would have a way of knowing right there.

Neo cannot judge that your account is now under a different owner just because the IP address used to access it has changed, since you may be using it from a different location or something. Some people have dynamic IP, which changes frequently, so that will affect it also. Thus, IP is not a reliable way to judge whether an account is under a new owner or not.

Furthermore, I interpreted the line as saying, "you may not give an account for np, money, blah blah in return". If you wanted to give it away for free I don't see why you shouldn't.

Actually, I'm enclined to agree with everconfused on her interpretation of the sentence:

5. You may not sell, trade, give or buy a Neopets account or pets for Neopoints, money, Neopets' Items, or anything else.

I can see how "sell, trade... or buy" relate to the action of exchanging an account for "Neopoints, money, Neopets' Items, or anything else" but I suppose I view "give" as a different concept. Yes, "give" can mean something like give for money but unlike "sell, trade... or buy" I don't think "give" is always associated with an exchange. Maybe it depends on which part of the sentence is the qualifying statement.

Either way, it doesn't look as though this issue is going to be resolved unless we can get a response from TNT as everyone seems to have differing views.

i would have to say the word give, to me means you can't give it away *whoops that makes no sense*

in other words, it would be freezable to giveaway the account, which is a shame, but i guess the scamming thing is a factor, plus also the fact tnt may have problems with the account appearing to maybe have a hacker, otherwise they would have a hard time distinguishing hacked accounts and transferred accounts if that makes any sense. thats probably why they have that rule.

but, i have transferred accounts, and had accounts transferred to me, and so far nothings happened, since once i get them, i change all details, and follow the mulitple account rules. *touch wood*

but selling it for furry points, if they got word of that, you would definitely get frozen,

Yeah, it makes no sense that you cannot give away your account. I mean, why shouldn't you let a close friends have your account if you do not want it anymore, and have to instead put it there to rot?

However, selling or exchanging it for other items is definitely wrong.

Hmm, well there are certain details that you can't change anymore, like the date of birth ... that's now "written in stone", though of course you can change your email, hobbies, the name that goes on your lookup. I am wondering about the dob thing though. I know you used to be able to change that which would have made life easier if you were to give an account to someone.

For instance, I have a subaccount with the lab ray. I do very little with it but adopt, zap until a pet's a good species/color, then put up for adoption and start again. I occasionally "chat" on it, but otherwise, there's only enough np to keep me in pound fees and there's maybe 30 things in the sdb - food, toys, cheap books for my adoptees.

Now, I have a niece who loves to come here and use the lab ray (though the sad pet faces at first made her really upset), and her mom said if I wanted I could turn the account over to her, since she does like it so much - they don't have a computer; there are no games, dailies, etc. involved on that account. And she would be here, so she'd be monitored by me. However, I hesitate to do this, even with a change in emails, etc. as the dob would be the same - she is 12 years old, I'm much older. Wouldn't that dob being the same even with a different email be kind of a "red flag" along with the fact that it would be on the same IP? As in - either the account was "scammed/cracked/hacked" or I was trying to pull something like multi'ing?

And there is the fact that I've seen people frozen for posting that they were quitting and did anyone want their account - that it was empty, just a pet, etc. and not asking for anything in return. That alone says to me that you cannot give an account away, let alone trade or "sell" it for anything either on or off the site.

If you really dont want the account anymore, then put the pets in the pound, donate any np and items to the money tree and then ask tnt to delete the account. That way someone else will be able to create an account with that username.
