ok...so is it just Halloween or any night? Some people elsewhere are saying they got it last night. I really hope so!

Even though I am older, it will really make my family mad if I get up at 2:59 am for Neopets. But I'll do it if I still have a chance. Please don't make them so hard!

hmm i'm hoping its going to be like the sloth avvy, where sloth give you permission to use his avatar mind you, i'm not usually that lucky with res for some reason

otherwise.. i'm already in trouble with parents over spending time on neopets when i should be studying.. and over me buying mcdonalds plushies and various other merch, so the getting up early in the morning thing will not make me popular either..

but this toolbar, was so cool, i didn't mind it taking longer to load, i also took screenshots of it while it lasted, so at least i get to remember it

The ultimate question is, will this toolbar ever be released again?

Yuck. I don't think so. As Rune said, what a way to ruin a good idea. I was prepared to give up Neopets over the smurfing blinking banner ads if I hadn't been able to block them, and already I'm approaching that point again.

A one-day opportunity is one thing, especially if it's been properly announced in advance, but an unprecedented and unheralded 60-second window is ridiculous.

As has been pointed out, since others don't see your side/toolbar, it isn't really a competitive thing the way avatars are. Being able to customize how you see a site is, on the other hand, a very nice feature, giving you the ability to personalize it. Now, after a day with the coolest of the sidebars we've seen previews of (and yes, I was online when it first showed up for everyone), it gets yanked away from me because my wife was playing Neopets that one particular minute instead of me. (She feels guilty, but of course she had no way of knowing. Neither did anyone else in the Neopian public.) Better to have never come up with the sidebar option than to be nasty with it.

Making the experience less fun is not the way to get and keep customers, Adam.

I'm sure tnt will come up with other ways for us to unlock the cool halloween toolbar.

Gosh, I think you all are making too much of a little sidebar already. Yes, I know the haunted theme bar is cool-looking, but chewing TNT's head over and over again just because you didn't get it is not acceptable. If you think about it, there are some avatars in Neo which you can only get through luck, and this sidebar is no exception - if you were lucky to be online during those 60 seconds, then you got it. If you weren't, then sorry, try again next year. TNT is not obliged to make the theme bar easy to get.

And for those who complain about being in the wrong time zones/being busy at that time and such - such is the way Neopets works. If you are not on at the right time then you just don't get it. Accept that fact. There are other things such as money tree giveaways/snowager times/mystery pic release times etc which will not suit the time zones of some people, but that cannot be helped. It is the way Neopets works.

I think it's a fine idea, personally. And I'm a paying customer with Portal. I like having the side bars like avs, I'm a big av fan. I'm also hoping they add some that you don't have to search for as well, like they have for avs. It would be nice for whoever doesn't collect them, but doesn't want to stare at the yellow bar.

I know not what course others may take, but I've "chewed" only the once. Since it is clearly on-topic, however, what makes objections (repeated or not) unacceptable?

Moreover, I doubt that it is only the unlucky majority who are capable of taking issue with the way this was handled.


Except that (as I pointed out) this isn't an avatar. Oddly enough, the sidebar is in a way more personal than the avatar that represents one on the boards and guilds.

It is also very unlike the avatars in that, though most people don't have every avatar they might like, and never will, we do have a great variety to choose from. There are many "default" ones, and several take no more effort than clicking some links. It's easy enough to select an avatar pleasing to one's taste.

Here, though, with the introduction of the option to choose how Neopets will look on one's own computer, most people can now select between yellow and . . . well, not a lot of options, are there?


Well certainly. Whoever said they were so obliged? Bit of a strawman there, Qanda.

Doing only what's obligatory wouldn't be much of a standard, anyway. The Neopets Team isn't obliged to give us great art, either, but they often do, and that clearly adds to the enjoyment of the site.

For that matter, TNT wasn't obliged to be so arbitrary about who gets the Halloween-theme sidebar, either. It was a choice they made, a choice I disagree with.


This, however, could have been helped.

As I said, it is all being at the correct place at the correct time. Some avatars are lost due to not being there at that time too. I feel sorry for those who missed it but there is really no use cursing TNT again and again for it, especially since Adam already came and said that there would be other ways to get it.

Hiddennegs - I wasn't referring to you only, many people here were complaining about it until it reached many pages long. I'm not saying that complaining is bad, but dwelling on the matter won't help a bit and will only serve to make you more infuriated at the matter.

Also, TNT said that they would release other themed bars too, so there will be other chances to get other bars. It's not as if this is the one and only chance to get a different theme bar. The haunted bar may be released again, for all you know.

I was at that time, I was checking my gallery, which now needs fixing because of the new sidebar. I didn't get it though...<_<
I hope it does come back, or at least let us have a pretty and easy to get to make it up! (thinks of a hannah sidebar or a mystery island one! )

Oh, good. I won't have to put the asparagus in with the brocolli. That would have been a waste of such good asparagus...

You know what? If I can convince my mom to let me stay up that late, I'll see if we can get it at 12:59 NST everyday. After all, I don't have school tomorrow! (Heh, I'm home schooled. Only go to the main school once a week.)

And if it is, in a less-arbitrary manner, then just perhaps it will because all the (mostly civil) complaining about the matter raised TNT's awareness of how much it needlessly distressed people.

That, imo, would be a good thing.
