Well, most of them look great and deserved to win, 'cept for the brain tree. It's a carrot for crying out loud! Man, I would have entered a lupe pumpkin into the contest, but my little brother took the pumpkin and made it a puking pumpking before I could get my hands on it.

I would like to remind EVERYONE on this thread that flaming of any kind is not allowed on these forums. Be it to a Member, non member, or piece of rock.
It dissapoints me to think that members of these forums would be so cruel as to make fun of something done by someone else. Nobody here can judge on who made what, nobody knows how old the entrants were, or how much time and effort was put into their work.
Every entry had it's good points. And I think that is what should be looked at, rather then picking needlessly on someone elses work.

I think they were many good entries. The rules did say that special conciderations were made for other veggies and things, and being English, carving a turnip is a tradition. I think everybody should have gotten an avatar and then winners should get a gold avatar or something. Some acknowledgement of hard, or not so hard, work would be appreciated. That is not always the case, however

I think it was totally fair and in keeping with the season to allow gourds and turnips, as well as pumpkins. Out of curiosity, I looked up Halloween traditions and history on the Internet the other day, and I learned that the original Jack-O-Lanterns were carved out of turnips in Ireland. Soon it was commonplace to use any type of gourd vegetable. I think everyone who took the time to submit their Jack-O-Lantern should be commended for a job well-done!

Yes, they should be commended and given a pat on a back, but it is a contest after all. Some people are going to win, and they're going to try and make the winners as diverse as possible while still maintaining a decent quality.
That's the thing about contests. Even if you do spend 3,4 or 5 hours or something, or even just 30 minutes doesn't mean you're going to win.
Though, personally, I like all the winning entrees. They were either very well done, very creative, or both. ^_^

I wish my pumpkin won.
But then again, it's the tombola guy and i forgot to take the knife out.

Well, there will be other random contests.
We will have another random contest shortly.
So I guess its not a complete loss.

I agree, there are plenty that aren't even pumpkins. They are extremely creative, however. I have to admit, these actual pumpkins are pretty cool:

this guy definatley deserved to win. I can barely crave triangle eyes on a dang pumpkin, let alone that!

One of my Guild members made this one. I think it looks great! I'm very proud of her.
I like all the other pumpkins/gourds/other random things, too.
And I wonder what next week's contest is going to be? Hope its not something to do with a dead turkey or the like.. *shudder*

Last year I painted a Kougra on one of my pumpkins. Maybe I should've kept the pic and entered it. They didn't say it had to have been a pumpkin you did this year, did they? But I probably wouldn't have made it in because it was painted, not carved.

Ow! I hurt myself laughing.

I think the entries are absolutely wonderful! This was such a nice idea for a contest, and everyone that won put forth a great effort.
I entered with a little Apple Lantern carved from an apple - I'd found one that was just the right shape and arranged all my little plushies around it for the photo. But I didn't win, and it doesn't feel bad at all. Looking at how creative the winning work was just makes me really happy! (I adore Halloween!) None of the winners should be put down - I personally think the carrot & cauliflower braintree/esophagor are adorable!
...Can't wait for the next random contest, though!

They'll probably have the av in future Random Contests, anyway. Like the Caption Contest avatar thing. *Nods*
Hopefully it'll be a more univeral contest next time.

One that I can do.

i liked the esophogor one, and even if its a spaggetti squash *never heard of that* butternut pumpkins are also a similar shape,
and about pumpkins, i don't mind the carrot, it was an orginal idea to i think use the carrot peel like that, although the picture quality, i can't tell,
and i also don't mind the carrot or other veggies ect, because have you considered how hard it is to get a pumpkin in the tropics? so i would feel it would be mean of them not to consider how hard it is to obtain pumpkins for some people. and idea and creativity is to me, more important than actually having a pumpkin,
and the av, its not like we won't have another chance, and i like the idea is random, it gives them the ability to change the critera in order to give most people a chance at such things

I was searching for ...something ...and thought this was funny and appropriate.
