What is THAT?
Doesn't look like a Pumpkin.

They drew an outline and carved out round holes.

Is that a pumpkin?
Image
A "Babaa"?
Image
Cool but that isn't carved.
Image
Sticks and rocks aren't pumpkins.

It is crazy because some people did really carve pumpkins and didn't get in because of those people.
And I know tons of people would probably want this avatar.

Lol, I agree, the pumpkin carving contest should be strictly restricted to carved pumpkins.

I agree that the ones that aren't carved pumpkins shouldn't have been selected as winners.

Especially the brain tree one it doesnt resemble a pumpkin in any way

From the rules after they were updated:

Quote:
3) Your pumpkin must be a REAL PUMPKIN (one that you have carved out yourself to resemble anything from Neopets, and taken a photo of). We may consider a turnip, beetroot, apple or gourd, but only under special circumstances.

Some sort of squash or gourd. I think it was pretty creative, and a very good representation of the esophager. *lol*

Hey, you never know...this may have well been a ten-year old kid who did this one. :) Sure, it's not perhaps as professional as some of the others out there, but remember there are a lot of young people on the site, this very well could have been some kid's first attempt at carving a pumpkin. Not everyone is extremely artistic or talented with carving a gourd. *giggle* I give them major props for trying.

I think it is...but painted...not really sure though, it is pretty round.

It looks like one to me, but granted, I think the photo quality probably ruined this one, I'll bet it looked much nice IRL.

True, but extremely creative. :) And judging by all the materials used, I'd say it was probably pretty expensive to make too. :o

That's not a stick, it's a carrot. :P (The braintree anyhow) I'm not sure what the esophager is though, maybe a cauliflower bit or something?

I wouldn't go as far to blame the people who won for other entires "losing out" on an avatar. I think everyone did a great job. Like I said with my first post about this topic days ago, I really feel anyone and everyone who sent in something hand carved deserved the avatar, and not just a select few...no doubt is carving a pumpkin is hard work and time-consuming, but it's also expensive in some cases.

I personally didn't enter because a pumpkin would cost me too much (I live in the arctic circle) to enter the contest, but still....I'm thankful we have something new like the random challenges. :) I can understand how some people may feel furt or "brushed off" because their entry NO DOUBT took a lot of time and might not have made it in, but that's no reason to be bitter about those who did win, right? :) This was a fun change...but please try to think about the contestants before you say something mean about their entries. :)

And please no hard feelings about my comments Adam, you know I always like reading your posts and discussing things on here with you. :) I just have a difference in opinion to your approach of the subject this time. :) (HUG)

Lol, I didn't notice the rules. If they mentioned that apples, gourds, carrots and such can be used, then I guess those guys won fairly.

And I fully agree with the above quoted statement. Anyone who takes the trouble to go and carve a pumpkin and submit it for judging deserves the avatar, IMO.

I think all of them deserved to be up there.
So what if a friend or you or whoever didn't get picked, that's just how things go. It's just like the art gallery... some people might spend forever on their picture and not get in while someone else gets in with a drawing that they did in a few minutes.

And it's not like this is the last time you're going to be able to get that avatar. If you go back and read the news...

NEW CONTEST - Every week or so we will be running a Random Contest, what you will be asked to do will vary from competition to competition. You may need to write the most bizarre poem, create a Neopets sock puppet, absolutely anything.

You're going to have more chances.

Now.. onto comment some of the pumpkins that were pointed out as not being deserving....

Image

It might be a hybrid between a pumpkin and a squash.

Image
I don't see what the problem is with this one? I think it looks pretty cute. Sure it's not as detailed as some of the other ones but not everyone can create some detailed masterpiece.

Image
Looks like a painted pumpkin to me. The eyes appear to be carved out with the edges of them painted black to give them that look. Very neat.

Image
Again... I don't see what the problem is with this one? It is a little difficult at first to tell what it is, but I think that's just b/c of the picture quality and blah blah etc.

Image
Sure.. it's not all carved, but the eyes appear to be carved out to me. There's the yellow part... looks like the person cut out just enough to show the inner layer of the pumpkin.. then the next part of the eyes appear to be carved all the way through.

Image It's a spagetti squash... I make it for dinner all the time :P The hands are the 'strands' from the inside. It's quite good actually. I make it with butter and parmesan cheese.

I think they were fair winners. Carving pumpkins, gords, etc isn't that easy.

I think TNT did a great job of picking winners that were unique and creative. I really enjoyed looking at the work that other people did.

IMHO, I think we have far more important things to complain about than this. :>

I think that most of them were pretty good. It's the effort that counts, in my view.

I think the entries were great. However, the challenge was a bit unfair. Not everyone can go out and get a pumpkin (they don't sell them in my country) and carve them. I tried making a digital pic (and said it was a digital pic) but I guess it didn't won.

Anyone interested you can see it here

I wonder how many entrys they had to begin with. And some of those might have been made by very young children, so they are probably really creative for a child to make. Now if I had made some of those, I don't think I would win, but some of those are good for a child to be able to make.

i think they were good, and it did say you could use something other than pumpkins. i liked the slorg, it was probably done by a younger user, and it shows a lot of effort. not everyone can carve like michaelangelo, and i'm glad TNT realized that :D

I'm the one who did the Slorg Attack one. Looking at all the entries, everyone put tons of work into it. If you haven't carved a pumpkin lately you might not remember how labor intensive it is. I spent about 4 hours creating my design, and probably close to 5 carving it. Plus the time I spent checking out pumpkin carving websites for tips and tricks since I had never carved more than the obligatory eyes and toothy grin before. Even a simple design takes oodles of work, so I don't think it's fair to just diss someone's win because you think you could've done better :-/ It's a contest, which means not everyone gets to win just because they entered O.o

My hats off to everyone who took a picture of their lit pumpkin, what a pain they are to photograph! My digital camera doesn't fit on my tripod, so I had to steady myself on a bucket that turned out to have water sitting in the lid, heh, but I got about 60 shots, 4 of which were usable. Having to have the shutter open longer makes for blurry pictures :(

*edit*

Last but not least, 50 3rd place winners also received 2,000 NP, a spooky food, a special avatar and have access to the Halloween themed side bar.

I just saw that, I'm pretty sure it wasn't there lastnight! 50 more winners, that is pretty awesome!
