Sorry darling, but it was a late 18th century, early 19th century money making scheme.

Quote:
The story of a dog slain in error after killing a wolf seems to have been attached to Llewellyn about 1793-4 by a local inn-keeper. A common enough occurrence along the same lines of hotels and taverns placing signs like "Ye Olde Inne" to attract more custom. William Spencer visited Beddgelert and, on hearing the tale, wrote his popular ballad about the faithful Gelert and so the story grew into the speech and hearsay of Wales.

Bruce - Was originally Bruce Forsyth (go here for more info)
Kau - Cow
Peophin - Pony/Dolphin
Flotsam/Jetsam - two aquatic terms: Flotsam, n, 1:Wreckage or cargo that remains afloat after a ship has sunk. 2: Floating refuse or debris. Jetsam, n, Cargo or equipment thrown overboard to lighten a ship in distress. (see also: Disney's "The Little Mermaid")
Elephante - Elephant

Moehog - Warthog-like creature
Tuskaninny - Seal-like animal with tusks (forget the correct name for those dudes with tusks)

And these are kind of random, but...

Strawberry Fields Forever is from a song. (as far as I know... the one day my mom just started singing a song and sang "Strawberry Fields Forever...")

Donna's account is named after someone, but I forget who.

Some corrections:
I think you meant walrus for the tuskaninny.

Draik - Drake

Walrus, yeah, that's what I was trying to think of.

The thing about Donna's account was a joke. :P

Wasn't Tuskaninny like a bad guy on the cartoon, Darkwing Duck? "You'll never get away with it, Tuskernini!! Get him, Launchpad!"

EDIT: Image

Oh? I always thought Lupe was named after Lupin, some word for wolf (but is also a flower).

No, I was not thinking of Professor Lupin off Harry Potter.

Actually, it came from latin first of all: Lupus. So Lupin was named after that :)

I spotted that awhile ago, but that's because thanks to interests I had when I was a kid, I know my dinosaurs. ;)

Yeah, 'Strawberry Fields Forever' is a Beatles song. I was amused when I finally found that reference. There's another Beatles reference somewhere on the site, but I forget where.

I always thought 'Lupe' was a fancier, scientific name for 'wolf', but that's just me.
