Isn't the whole Portal/premium access thing supposed to be helping with the costs of running the site? (when it's fully released) And if so, why do you still need to have huge sponsor banners?

Or will people with premium/portal not have those banners show up?

No sponsor banners will show up to premium/portal users at all evah.

I'm still for adding more events, like when someone buys something from your shop for example. A stock ticker somewhere on the bar would be interesting and handy for those who play the stock market.

Ummm I think I would have to say...I hate the idea of an event for when someone buys from your shop. I stock my shop with over 50 item nightly and I really don't want to know someone bought my 2k item. =/
Now, if it told for items that are 90k+....that's cool. Makes you know your HTS sold.

I LOVE that they put the search box below the user/pet names and Neopoint amount! I always keep all except a couple hundred Neopoints in my bank, so I'm always looking to see if I have enought nps to do this daily or that one. I also change my user lookup regularly, so this is really more convenient too.

It's not a problem. It just struck me as wrong. It not really is pay-to-play yet...since the core of Neopets is still free. I mean, honestly, the only reason I've gotten any random events lately is because I'm playing neoquest, not due to any Premium service. It's kinda frustrating...

A lot of people are having trouble getting any of the games to load. I wonder if Adam is in the middle of putting up the new toolbar for the general population??

Paying for the Portal is a drag, but I'll probably do it if it means no advertising on the toolbars....

I've noticed that although you fixed the Events icon so that it shows the text when you hover over it, so far it's only working for the Neomail notifications.

Heh. I missed the item event. They should all have the title tag now.

Things seem to be working great, except I had to empty my cache last night, and it took forever to load the pages on dial-up.

We're actually looking at some server side optimization that will make pages load in about 1/3 the time (hopefully). This should help dialup players quite a bit if we can get it to work.

I just got this problem while I was playing Gormball.

Should be fixed. That's a really old game with really old code, so hopefully I got all the new code in the right spots. Lemme know if you get anything else funky on it. Thanks!

back onto the topic of the thread.... the new toolbar. i've noticed one downside. if you just go to neopets.com (ie the first page i go to when i come onto neopets) it doesnt tell you about your events, has this always been the case when you've been logged in?

Yeah, it's a product of the new template. -_- The way it is now, you'd just have this nice little icon up there and nothing next to it and it would be really lonely. So while we try to come up with some spiffy ways to display events there, we're just excluding them for now. It's the index page so lots of people have to have a say in that one.

EDIT: i've just found another problem. this page was all squished up to the left:

Heh. We figured people would use search more than a link to their own lookup so that's why it was at the top. But several people from lots of different testing groups said otherwise, mostly because of the NP line, so we just moved it up. We also had to consider placement of that ad but we pushed it down anyway. Bwaa haa haa!

Hey! Changing the News icon was my suggestion! We should form a club!!!

There were a few icon changes that were planned. Boards and Create a Neopet were done quite early, but we had to find just the right thing to use for news. Games was also planned, but we are trying lots of different things with that one. Heh. I think the rest are staying the same but you can suggest away if you have ideas.

Okay, this one has me stumped since it's working fine for us here and all the code is there. Does it continue to be fudged after you refresh? Is there a header image and/or event at the top of the page? If you could copy the code from the flash banner to the "19th of October" part, that would be really helpful!

Yeah, the little ad is now below user info and the search bar which is great, but they need to add a few pizels of space between the search bar and the ad because they are touching and I don't like that.

Yup. As I said, the game challenge icons aren't done yet. >.< Artists are working on them now, though. (Actually, I think they're approved at this point. I'll have to check!) Thanks!

Nope. The image servers are just bogged down at the moment. Sys admins are working on it.

Wait, actaully, it might just be me, but you know how the neomail has flash or whatever now? Well, I can't seem to get any of the buttons on my n-mail to work now. Was annoying when I had C&P a word and I couldn't unbold it.
Again, it might just be a problem with Mozilla. I didn't have this problem tillt he new sidebar.

This is a question not directly related to the new sidebar but more for the ads. I use Mozilla Firefox and there is an extension available called Adblock. My question is, could I get frozen for Adblocking the flash ads shown in the sidebar?

I didn't even think about that. It doesn't seem like you can since I've been using one since like July. It's been really nice for dial-up I would like a staff member's opinion about this though.

Excellent question Kiwi! Lots of people do use Mozilla ... I was thinking of looking into it myself.

I can now confirm that the premium.neopets.com does not work - get a can't find page. So I'm suggesting that since so much is being done that a link be put on the site? I looked in my magazine - the one that talked about the portal - no addy there. I did want to check it out, see if you can get JUST the Portal - nothing else, and if there's anything on getting the portal with more than one account.

One other thing, and people who have this please don't fling dung at me, ok? Lookups + music + dial-up and now this big flash banner? I'll never get to some peoples' lookups! Just takes too darned long now, without the extra ad. I thought the music code was disabled and music wasn't allowed on lookups anymore. Seems people are using an alternate code.
