Hmmm... Just glancing through Australian Commonwealth legislation, there is a 2001 act that deals with Interactive Gambling but I currently can't find any 2004 information (maybe sources haven't been updated yet if its just recent?). Short of reading through the entire 2001 act I only know that it was put into place in order to restrict provision and access of interactive gambling by Australians - that's how I read the introduction anyways. If anyone is interested and a little more enthusiastic about reading it than I am the name is
Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (Cth). *shruggs*
Bleh, now I can't get my free dailies

Hmm, I set my prefs to say Australia, and I didn't have a problem. Maybe people who live in Aus, and have their prefs set to Aus get blocked. I would think that Neo would protect themselves like that if there was a new law.

Hmm. This is really odd. Surely they should only block it for underage people? I am 24 and could go and spend all my money at the casino, but I'm not allowed to play tombolo in a fantasy world.
Sigh.

Looks to be true. I'm Australian, and I can't load the pages. I just get an error.
Great, now we're being protected against a kids site? What's next?

I was thinking the same thing about 30 seconds ago - I can wander down to the Casino in the city right now and not have any problems getting in and gambling there. Ehh, I wonder what TNT is going to do about this and if they're going to put something in the News to tell people what is going on.
On another note, its not the ISPs that are blocking the pages because on the account that I have set as Canada (from ages ago), I have no problems getting the pages to load.

Does anyone know if it's an IP/ISP thing, or a preferences thing?
Or for that matter, a preferences + age thing?

Its not ISP because I can access on one account and not on another (different countries recorded). I don't think it has anything to do with age either, my guess is that its largely as a result of the country you have your preferences set on.

I just tried it out and confirmed it - it's dependent on your country settings.
When I was on Australian, as it's been since I created the account, I wasn't able to play the games. Then I changed to the US, and I was able to access them straight away.
It's good to know that TNT is on top of things, but really. This is just over the top.

Hmm, maybe it has something to do with this?

Making a very big deal out of something that just ... isn't (IMHO).
Maybe I better go sell the scratchcards I have sitting in my SDB, just in case it goes away!

I doubt it would go away. Even if they stop them for Australian users (which I think is highly stupid, but that's beside the point), there'd likely be too many complaints from users from other countries around the world.

Maybe they'll try and re-program the access to various parts of the site for different age groups? Who knows, I'm guessing if it stays like that though quite a number of Australians will end up leaving and the other half will be lieing about their locations.

The problem with that being that they have no real way of controlling it - whether it's age or country, or both.
I wouldn't leave, but I'd be sorely tempted to change my location. It's not fair on those who are trying for avatars that are dependent on those games, either.

I know, not only that but those of us who don't restock often enjoy winning the odd faerie/codestone from the Tombola because it means a 4k+ np boost to the Bank account every so often. I mean, come on, you go to school fairs and they have little games like the Tombola that some of the kids participate in, not only that but if its really little kids their parents should be watching what they're doing to a certain degree. Ek.

Alex, I didn't even think about the avatars, to be honest. I guess because I'm not a huge collector.
I don't know that people will leave, but this is something I would be willing to "gamble" on - many of the players affected by this will be changing their country. Before you know it, there will be no one from Australia (or any other country affected) on the site.
