*raises eyebrow*

I remember that when I was younger I liked to collect their shells. I thought the actual bug was a creepy looking thing, probably due to its size.

We don't even get them in Los Angeles. :( I mean, maybe I would think they're creepy too, but I've never even gotten to actually see one.

I thought I was seeing less and less of them. I don't mind, I like that they are going. I never liked them, I'm glad they only come out every 17 years. I couldn't walk without worrying I'd get cicada juices on my shoes :(

There are Cicadas in PA but not in the city. Maybe when I'm 34 I'll get to see one.

There were supposed to be tons here in Ohio....but I don't remember seeing, or hearing for that matter, a single one. I remember too when I was little, me and my friends used to collect the shells. Once, we got a shoe box and set it on it's side. Then put grass on the bottom and taped little pieces of string on the top so they hung down. Then we'd put the shells on the strings and swing them back and forth like they were Tarzan

Thank you Captian Obvious. Many of us already know they come out every 17 years. I hope to see one next time.

Some people, on the other hand, don't.

I think they're pretty cool. I don't like how they look very much (I'm afraid of pretty much any bug that is larger than my thumbnail) but I think the sound they make is awesome. Everyone else has been complaining about them, saying that they're too noisy, but I think it's quite comforting to be able to stand outside on a nice summer evening and hear them buzzing away. I used to call them the Summer Bugs before I actually knew what they were called, since of course, they only come out during the summer.

And despite popular belief, they do come out every year in the places that have them. There are just a whole lot more of them that come out every seventeen years. I know that a few come out every year because I hear them every summer.
