Zin-Kylan twiddled her scepter, bored out of her mind. There really wasn't much for her to practice anymore- an ice square was an ice square, no matter how big she made it. Zin-Kylan was really having trouble creating icy winds, but she knew it would be rude to try to practice right now, as there was a girl in the room practicing with a fire whip, and a good icy wind could easily interfere with her practicing. Of course, Zin-Kylan knew she could always try to keep the wind within a small area, but she wasn't that good at controlling things. So, she just sighed and sat down, watching the others in the practice room.

Hours later.....

Amia walked over to the practice room, hoping to see if anyone will practice basic weapons fighting. Her glaive skills needed improvement. She winced at a scab on her leg, a product of her self-practicing. She placed her hands to it, and blue coolness emerged to envelope the scab. It turned into a scar, and the pain was gone.

Thank goodness it was shallow, she thought. She couldn't fully heal deep weapon wounds yet, just minor weapon wounds and illnesses. Most in her family couldn't start advanced healing until the age of 15, but she still practiced, in case she needed it.

She entered through the doorway, and found two people practicing their magic skills.

"Hey, anyone for a quick round? I need to practice."

Chessa's heart leaped tremendously. She whirled around on one bare heel, nearly slipping on the dew-covered grass. Brushing her hair frantically out of her face, she stared at the speaker. It was a boy.

Chessa blinked, her hands frozen behind her ears where she had tucked her hair back. She stared at the boy. His voice contained concern, but his expression was nearly blank, as if he'd only asked the question out of sheer boredom or, perhaps, feeling that it would only be polite to do so. After all, he was a total and complete stranger, and wouldn't actually, genuinely care that Chessa was in the midst of an incredibly puzzling mini-crisis that caused her to sometimes think that she was going completely insane (but she wouldn't go into that again.)

Chessa searched for words, verging on telling the boy--the stranger-- about her dilemma. She could have used a bit of help, but this guy didn't exactly look like a psycologist to her, and she would probably only bore him more by telling him about this "nightmare."

Finally, she decided on a simple answer. "No, I'm all right." She said softly, frowning a little afterwards because she hadn't meant to reply so. How on earth did all of her responses come out so quiet? She smiled as if to reassure the boy that she would be okay on her own-- nightmare or no nightmare-- and that it was none of his concern.

[I'm sorry I didn't post earlier; my internet was down for some time.]

Tapping her chin with the top of her black fountain pen, Jolene tried to think of an appropriate word. She was writing a letter to her mother back home in their country estate. For a moment, images of her beloved home beside the tall, snow-capped mountains filled her mind’s eye. It was such a beautiful place. How she loved to go on long, rambling walks there! A longing filled her heart. She was feeling homesick.

Putting her pen down, she blotted the paper where she had noticed an ink blotch appearing. That was the only thing she didn’t like about her fountain pen. It made awful blotches on the paper and she was forever blotting what she had written. Otherwise, it was a lovely old-fashioned pen. She did so like old-fashioned things!

Dear Mother and Father, (the letter ran)

It is a week into school and I am missing you all very much. I have settled in quite well, I think, but I still wish I were home sometimes. It is just not quite the same without you and all the other children. I expect I will get used to this soon, but I do not believe I will ever be completely used to it. It is a good thing, I think, or I should not want to come home for the holidays!

This school is quite different from pre-school. I am not sure what I was thinking when I thought it would not be much change from my previous school! It is so very much bigger, for a start! I was quite lost for the first few days. Fortunately, all other new students were equally lost so I was not alone. The older students were kind enough to show us around until we knew our own way about. I remembered to thank them, as you taught me to.

There are very many lessons, all extremely informative. I find I must work three times harder than I did in pre-school, for I would not be able to keep up with the work set otherwise. It is very difficult, too, but I enjoy a good challenge. I think you will not need to worry much about my work because I intend to work hard, and, if there are any scholarships or rewards, to win them. Although it is not easy at times, I relish these lessons. I feel that I have learned more in one week than I did in a month in pre-school, and I daresay that I am not wrong in my guesswork as to how much we do now as compared to then.

A lot seems to go on at all times of the day, all round the year. There is constantly some activity to do and some event to look forward to. At least, that is how it seems, for it is still very confusing to me. I gather that there are tournaments where students compete against each other. Whether this is an annual event, or one that happens each term, monthly, or even weekly, I do not know. I will try to learn more and write of it to you in my next letter. It sounds most exciting and I would love to have a contest of abilities. It would let me know how well I am doing as compared to the others. I mean to be very good!

There is also a lot of drama! Not a day goes by without something to interest the school. Yesterday there was quite a silly row in the cafeteria between a girl and a boy. I presumed from their argument that they are considered to be “a couple”. I thought they were rather young, because they could not be more than fifteen! I promise you I shall not be doing any such thing until I am quite grown up, Mother, so please do not worry about that. The couple were arguing over spilt milk, it seems, quite literally too. The boy had dropped milk all over the girl’s clothes and she was rightfully upset. Everyone watched this with the greatest amusement. It ended with a declaration from the girl that she was never going to go out with the boy again, and he said – if you can possibly believe it – “Good riddance!” and stalked off! I was amazed by how rude he was. I hear that they were making up for it by the evening. I really do not understand what the fight was for if they are back to normal later. It makes far more sense that they should not make any fuss and save a lot of bother that way.

Jolene looked over the letter. She was not sure now that she should have put in the paragraph about the drama. It was something she didn’t think her parents would really approve of reading. They were quite prim in terms of what a person should think about. Other people’s business was really not her own, and commenting on people’s behaviour was not something they encouraged. All the same, she couldn’t very well remove the paragraph as she only had so many pieces of paper for letter-writing. There was a sheet for each week she was at school so she would write weekly. If she started again, it meant she would miss out on another week and her mother would be upset and worry about her.

Reading over this letter, I find it to be a little unusual of myself to write in this manner. I hope you will forgive me, Mother. School is an overwhelming business but I am sure I will be quite alright soon and back to my normal self. I have taken some time out for this morning as my letter-writing time. This seems to be a good time to write so I will do this every week at the same time as I am writing now. I hope this letter finds everyone in good health. I miss you very much.

With love,

Jolene

Satisfied now, Jolene blotted the page one last time before folding it carefully and sliding it into a clean white envelope. Sealing it, she placed some stamps on it and left the dormitory quietly. She didn’t want to wake anyone so early in the morning.

After delivering her letter, she returned outside. The air was cool and clean and the sun was shining beautifully. It was a lovely morning and she felt she simply couldn’t go back inside. There was nothing to do inside a building so early anyway!

She suddenly decided to go exploring. The first week had taken up so much of her time just finding her way around the buildings, she hadn’t really had time to get to know the grounds. Setting off at a brisk pace, she headed towards the monorails for the green gardens in Area Four. She loved gardens and that would be a good place to start off. There was an hour or so left before breakfast so she had plenty of time. With a smile on her face, Jolene began her expedition.

After practicing with a new person who came in after her, Amia walked out to lay against the trees. She did pretty well, for such a clumsy person. Se had far to many accidents 'dropping' her glaive when she practiced. They often ended up with someone getting lightly struck by a side of the glaive.

She looked up to the clear blue sky, with such a lust for activities.Oh how she wished she could do something right now to scratch her itch, but what? She couldn't always fight, she had her healer duties to care after as well.

I just wish I had more flexibility than just practice, heal, and sleep. If I lead such a boring life, what'll I tell my children?

She chuckled at her joke. She wouldn't get married for years to come, much less have children. And it would be the father, not mother, that would tell the stories of his grand life.

She glanced at a nearby tree, where a senior was nailing some new announcements. One caught here eye:

"Unsupervised school tournament! All the fun of fighting, with no teachers!"

Amia hid her anxiousness. Most tournaments were almost never announced at a regular basis, so it was always unpredictable as to the date. BUt right there, a tournament!

Maybe I should see how long I can last? But its risky. I don't like the sound of the word 'unsupervised'.

She started to contemplate her options, as she gazed into the blue sky.

Saruri heard a sliding sound. She presumed the boy had activated one of the pools in the corner of the room.

Another person entered the room. Saruri glanced at the person as they walked by. A girl. The heard the girl mutter something before walking to some part of the room. Then someone else opened the door, but then left upon seeing already three people in there.

Saruri's hand slipped, and the whip missed the spot by quite a few inches. She grabbed a bit of her shirt and wiped the sweat off the handle.

Pay attention to your practise, she thought to herself firmly.

Just as she was about to raise her whip again, the sound of the door opening was heard yet again. Lots of slashing sounds were heard. Quite disturbing and loud, really. Feeling annoyed, Saruri turned to him just as he finished off one of the practise dolls. Her mouth curled into a sneer. Just what did he think he was doing?

Another girl came in, and said, ""Hey, anyone for a quick round? I need to practice."

This room was getting too crowded for Saruri's taste. She checked her watch. Loads of time before breakfast. Well, she'd just have to put up with all these people. She noticed that everybody were presumably in the same year as her, but she only recognized one or two of them very indistinctly. She had never been able to learn people's faces very well. Maybe because they held such little interest for her.

The starting of a new day brings a new hope, and not to mention a new list of things to do.

Andy strained his eyes at the scenery outside his dormitory room. He opened the glass window a bit and inhaled the fresh air, which reminded him of his old home. The birds were chirping and small critters were rustling through the trees.

"Ahhhhhh..." he released his breath quietly.

He was glad that the school's administration knew the importantce of a clean and peaceful environment, particularly the domitory which was surrounded by a smaller version of the garden in Area 4. He had always loved nature since he was a little child and until recently, he knew that waking up early here in Erre Ledia was worth it.

Andy didn't care what time it was. For all he knew, it was still early morning, judging by the carefree pace of the few students walking on the stone pathway below. Students in groups of 2 and 3 were chatting with each other while one was using her pocket PC, all of them walking towards the monorail station.

He turned his head and saw the backpack that contained his sword. As much as he'd like to stand on the spot admiring the view, there were other important things to settle later in the day. He'd better wash up.

Nerevar realized what he had done when he saw a girl sneer at him. "uh.. oops sorry i can fix that!" He had only practiced repairing smaller dummys before but the same basic purpose should still apply. He summoned up wind with a very small bit of electricity. (for sautering pieces together if they needed it) After about 15 minutes it looked great and he suspected the dummy was a bit tougher to. Slightly embaressed about the incident, he headed down to the cafeteria to get some breakfeast.

((Just a heads up. With Glass’s permission , I tweaked my character a bit. Main changes are his element [which is now ice], name [now Kenji], and eye colour [deep blue].))

The girl’s startle came as somewhat of a surprise, however failed to bring about any alteration to Kenji’s vapid, casual face. He found her in the midst of tending to her once stray hair, currently tucked behind ears that oddly shared company with a pair of time-frozen hands. He could see her desperate search for an appropriate string of words, perhaps ones to dismiss whatever matter troubled her. Indeed an assumption, however one that explained her underlying expression of a scurrying mind.

“No, I’m alright.” She replied, a voice suspiciously soft. The response’s withered endings drew to surface eyes bearing a softness rivaling that of Chessa’s masking tone. It was obvious she was unwilling to share her troubling matter, which was understandable considering she was not familiar with him in the slightest. Perhaps she was able to see threw his seemingly fictitious interest.

“Hm. Alright then. Sorry to have bothered you.” Kenji finally replied while sparring no time in turning away. He began his previous path toward the monorail, nothing more than a glance falling over a dawn-lit shoulder. Kenji, quickly dismissing the matter, could not help but at least keep the bothered girl’s face in memory. Maybe that delusive interest he convinced himself of held more truth than he was willing to accept.

Eliwood had sank to the bottom of the pool and activated a control panel doiwn at the bottom. Above him, his concoction of the whirlpool and electricity was swirling around. He activated the pools own whirlpool and watched as it started spinning fast above his head. He was unsatisfied with the rate it was speeding up at so he turned the whirlpools speed up to max. He had done the whirlpool trick before, but he had never done it with the computers pool at full blast. The pool above him got faster. He could feel the suction of the whirlpool, and it was just starting to speed up.

Knowing that something was wrong he turned back towards the control panel to shut the pools own whirlpool off but he found that he had drifted back upwards and was being sucked out of the pool. Now Eliwood was a clutz, but he was also a quick thinker, so he started swimming to the top. He would have to impress her another way. He formulated a plan in his head and as he was approaching the whirlpool generatoirs, he took the breather out of his mouth and stuck it in the right hand generator, turning the water coming out of the generator to turn into pure air. Feeling proud of himself he climbed out of the pool and stood at the side while drying himself with his shirt. He saw the girl still practising with his whip, as well as quite a few more people still in the room. She missed it! SHE MISSED IT! Eliwood was feeling angry at her for not seeing him, but angry at himself for not attracting her attention. For about 2 minutes he was filled with anger, and shyness about talking to her. Eventually he said "Excuse me" in the direction of the girl. Unfortunately, the breather decided to dislodge itself and a torrent of water came gushing out of the generator, causing a big wave to come out of the pool and soak him. He was not having a good day so far.

Amia thought over the chain of events.

Most teachers dissapprove of events like these, but they can't stop all of it. I really need something to do, but I don't want to get on the bad side of the teachers. That wouldn't be the best way to keep my grades...

Amia suddenly looked up from the tree she was resting on. She gripped her glaive, ready for anyone. And out popped a squirrel.

Stupid me... I can't believe I got concerened over something like a squirrel in the trees... I've been thinking way to much for my own good.

So Amia wandered off, heading back into school.

[Danzer: Well, alright, if you wish, but do make sure it is related somehow to white magic. I mean, a samurai and a healer doesn't exactly go together.]

[Andy: Psst, by the way, it's a Saturday morning. Meaning, no lessons.]

Elily walked on, heading towards the temple grounds to pray. She stopped at a shrine favouring the Goddess of Miracles, and prayed for a while, then proceeded to pray to her other gods. It was the same routine for her every morning, a short or long walk [depending on whether it was a weekday or weekend] in Area 4, then prayers at the temple grounds, then breakfast at the hall in the Dormitory Area. She always made it a point to pray at least once day, it helped keep her faith strong. Once finished, Elily got up, and brushed herself. It was time for breakfast. She sure could use some buttered toast right now.

Jolene was pleased with herself as she entered the cafeteria and ordered some porridge for herself. She had been very thorough as she explored the whole of Area 4 and acquainted herself with all possible routes to this or that place.

Having worked up an appetite and flushed cheeks with all the exercise, she sat down with her white porcelain bowl of porridge, into which she added some salt and had it "neat". She thought her red cheeks must make her look entirely red, what with her flaming hair to help her appearance. She was wearing a starched white blouse with a high collar, around which was tied the velvet ribbon and emerald. Her skirt was black with her usual little black boots. All in all, she looked rather prim and proper. That was the desired effect, after all.

There were very few people in the cafeteria that morning. People were lazing about with the first off-day they had from school and many were probably still in bed, she thought. They would want to relax and enjoy themselves, and procrastinate, she added with a slight curl of her lip. Well, Jolene was certainly not going to laze about all day! She had enjoyed her morning very well and she now planned to do some studying or practice. Perhaps she should work outside? It was such a fine, sunny day.

A girl entered the cafeteria. Jolene didn't often notice people because they weren't worth the notice, but she noticed this girl. She had blue hair and deep violet eyes, so very different from the Souragion girl it struck Jolene as funny. She smiled. School certainly was going to be fun, if she was going to have opponents like these.

Saruri heard an "Excuse me" uttered behind her. Not knowing whether this was meant for her, she turned to see the curly-haired boy looking at her before a large wave of water went over him, leaving him completely soaked. Her eyes traveled slowly from the top of his head down to his feet. Deciding it was safe to presume that "excuse me" had been directed towards her, she answered.

'Yes?'
