Neopets toolbar & portal

Mon Aug 23, 2004 1:02 am

I just wanted to clear a few things up.
First the portal-
There's a calender, weather report, TV listings (USA only), neopets links, and it even lists all of your neofrends that are online. Plus TONS of stats. There's a lot of real-world news, which I think shouldn't be there. (Neopets Portal).
If you sign up, you recive the I <3 Neomails avatar, (they changed how to get it :x ),and maybe even more avatars eventully, neopoints (the amount depends how much you pay) and the promise of more random events. It's not cheap if you get it for a year, I think it's about $30.00 and a month is around $5-10.00. (I can't remember exactly.) The neopoints are given every month.
Now we move on to the tool bar-
The neopian dailies are all linked there, with shiny little icons. You can add or remove links too. There's a thing for non-neopets favorites too, and a popup blocker though i've heard it doesn't work. I'm not sure how much this costs. There's a webmail link, but that's not ready yet.

How did you find all that out?

Woah, that's how you get it now?! :o

Thank God I got the I love Neomails avatar when all you had to do is say "I love Neomails" to a random person...

I wouldn't pay $5-10 for random events that are useful to me. This is for anyone who wants to download the neopets toolbar. The only useful thing on the toolbar is the "quick links." The pop up blocker allows every single pop up to come through (use google instead ;) ). Useful pop ups and even pop ups from its own site are blocked(such as games javascript thing).

My advice is to only download it if it came with the portal or if your connection is slow.

Hmm, well considering many ISP now come with their own pop-up blocker (mine does, works pretty well and does allow the game window pop-ups with no problem), most also have a favorites list you can add to (without a d/l toolbar that usually is full of tracking/adware) and most of us already have a homepage I personally don't think it's worth paying anything.

Add to that you more than likely already have email with your ISP that you're already paying for and there's free web-based emails (none of which I completely trust), why pay for that? And do you really want to send your emails with an @neomail.com addy? My friends would be like :loser: if I did that.

Last, but not least, the Premium ISP...who here who is lucky enough to have high speed internet wants to go back to dial-up? And with an ISP that I've heard is down alot; along with their "privacy" policies ... and it is only available in the US, which they don't bother letting you know until after you've signed up giving them your personal and credit card information AND charge you!

Bleh to all that, sorry! For what, an avatar or so, a few np, maybe a few random events? Nah.

Neopets also started this 'game' thing for Premium members. That's how you get the Space Faerie Keyring, beanbag, plushie, shield and pen. And possibly others items.

I paid $5 for a month, even though it's all competely useless. I didn't get more random events, the Space Faerie thing wasn't there yet, and none of the other special features apply to countries outside of the US. The only nice thing was the @neomail.com email account. Which I wouldn't use anyway because Gmail is better.

Then I got suspended for some reason. I don't know why, but I'm not going to do anything about it. $5 isn't much, but it's too much for the Premium service.

Stijn, I thought that premium game site (don't have the url right now) was something different. Like it stands alone. I had heard that you did have to pay for that, but I didn't know that there were supposed to be "extras" you could get for using it.

The toolbar isn't any good at all. The only decent thing is the links to the dailies, and I don't even use those, I find it easier to just click through the site. The popup blocker doesn't even work- except for the Neopets popups. Go figure.

And I don't see why I would want an @neomail.com account, seeing as I have the coolest domain ever! (@borovan.com)

Here, I have the portal openonly at my dads house because I was a beta tester, but I don't use it that much. I thought neopets woud'nt be a pay site, although it isn't completly, it's making it's way..
