I'm done with this

Fri Aug 20, 2004 4:06 pm

I will be the first to admit, i've been pretty obsessed with neopets. And mainly just to see how much nps i could make...and how many things i could restock. But the restocks have become frustrating and i get really upset when i'm on during the weekend and neopets goes down. I have to find better things to do with my time. I've even take the bus back from a friend's place so i could go back home and collect the advent calender prize. It doesn't matter if i have 1 million nps because my neighbourhood shop doesn't really accept them. It doesn't matter if i spend hours playing Meerca Chase, because i am never going to use the darn avatar in the first place. I get angry when neopets changes the system and i am not able to get items, not that i was able to get a lot of items before..but it's a really stupid thing to be angry about. So why am i still doing it if it not really fun anymore ??

Well, the crazy nps making stops here, everything in my galleries goes. i'm going to clear out as much from my shops as possible..and from my bank account..which is at 1.5 mil. I thought of dumping it all in the money tree, but there are people there who are just out to get as much as they can and are not really poor. so i'm going to go round and give the nps as i see fit. I'm going to leave my main account open and maybe log in to play games or see what is going on. but i am not going to let a game get control over me. I don't want to be at home at 3 pm and think "Oh, the Count is awake..i better log in now." I don't want to go out with my family and think that i could have been getting a new avatar or getting my pet levelled up at that time. I want to enjoy it. And honestly..if you ask me, i'm afraid to give it all up..what will i be without the galleries and restocking and whatnot.. probably much happier.

I'm still not sure what to do with my pets. I love my pets..yes even tough they arnt real, but i don't want to see them going into accounts that get frozen. I'll decide on that later. right now, i'm going to take a deep breath and start trying to kick a 3 year old habit

BTW, No begging.

That's the one thing that you focused on in that post?

EDIT: I think that it is great that you are giving np to people who really need it.

Well, Neopets is a game that many people love. But I think that Neopets has taken a lot of people's soul/freedom. Too many peopel get obsessed and addicted to Neopets that they don't have enough time in their real life. Even though I've been on Neopets for nearly 4 years(or five, I can't remember XD), I still like it a lot. But your life is much more important then a little game. I mean, Neopets is fake. Yes, it is fake. So, don't let it hypnotize you into playing too much because it can ruin your life before you know it. I mean, If you play toooo much that is. ToT; O_o;; Okay... I'm acting weird now... This is just MINE opinion of the game so don't go yelling at me if yours is differrent. :D Just wondering, is this like a give away or sumthing? XD;;

Edit -
You don't needa give anything to me. ^^ It's okay. And I hope you find your inner hobbies. :)

good for you. I've just recently decided to give it up too, as I was obsessed and it just wasn't fun anymore. If you really want to kick the habit, get rid of the pets. It's not easy but its worth it. There was this person on the neoboards once who gave up on neo and abandoned a plushie zafara, tyrannian krawk, mutant draik, and a grey lupe, as well as all his stuff. That's determination for ya :D If you don't give up the pets, the temptation to return is too great. I hope you can beat this :) Don't get me wrong, neopets is fun and all, but if starts becoming more important than real life, you've gotta let it go. that goes for everyone.

I wish you all the best of luck :) pm me anytime if you need anything.

No, that's just the only thing I felt like commenting on. I read the entire thing and had no comment, it just struck me that she's on the opposite side of the world and he's "awake" at 3 PM there instead of 3 AM.

I can understand how you feel. I remember on my first account, a while ago, I got too addicted and spent waaaay too much time on Neopets. I self-froze, stayed away for a few months, and ended up coming back with a new account.

Instead of giving up all your nps, however, I advise you to just take a strict vacation away from Neopets for a few weeks. Try a different hobby, perhaps. If you want to come back after that, then you still have all the nps and items you've worked for, and you don't have to start from scratch. If you don't want to play Neopets any more, then you can get rid of them as you wish.

All I'm saying is, it takes a ton of time and effort to get that much nps, and you should be 100% sure of your decision before you take drastic action.

Good luck. :)

Just a question, how can you be sure if that person you're giving your items/nps to is not rich? Well, of course you can look upon their uerlookup. But userlookups... lie. Sometimes. :P

I think it's a great idea. When you get too obsessed with neo, a good break is refreshing way to dive back into normalcy. I suggest you keep your pets. Just stick them in the lodge every 28 days, and they'll be fine. As for giving away your stuff, my advice is to go slowly. Don't give away dozens of items or thousands of np each day. Give away maybe 1 item every two days, and keep your np until your items are gone. I have unfortunately seen many people frozen for giving away gifts because their account looked like it had been hacked, so take it reeeeealy slowly. My advice is, watch for people you think are deserving, then send them a little something if you feel like it. A neomail would probably help, too, so the people don't think you're a scammer trying to emtpy a hacked account.

Azzie, sometimes I feel like that, too.
Sometimes I wonder why am getting mad with the fact I can't bounce a meteorite on the computer enough times to "get the 1000 points, already!" Or, with my eyes almost closing, I got myself thinking, "Oh, I still have to go to Volcano Run".
On magazines here and there, I discovered that's a common thing. I guess it was in one Wired mag, last year, an article about the players of online games like everyquest (sp?) really don't play for fun, they work, literally work, as a job, on their virtual comunities. For free. It became an obligation.
So, I decided to slow down. A computer-less week and a busy life helped me to put things on perspectives.
I still have goals on neopets, but now I am not in a hurry to reach'em.
I don't have to make 10 k everyday playing, I don't have to go to fruit machine or stock market at every single dawn. Sometimes, I rather sleep a little more, or going for a walk and exercices.
If you get used to neopia, you can also get used to access it fof fun only and only when you really want.

The only people on neo that I worry about are the ones who can't imagine a day without getting on Neopets.

Fri Aug 20, 2004 4:30 pm

thanks for the advice, i don't know who is poor or rich on the boards, but i'll give to people i find are deserving. I just gave away a lisha and jeran plushie.. :o ..this isnt a give away though.

I know that i still want to be on neopets, but as long as i have the items and the nps i'll be tempted into going on and trying to restock and spending. I'm not going to give it all away, maybe most of it. I think i'll keep my pets as well.

The count is on at 3pm my time, but i'm in my class from 1 to 5 so i don't get a chance to visint nowadays.

Just do what feels right to you, if you don't want to give your pets away, don't. It is your account, afterall. :)

P.S: You really are nice for giving a poor neopian a million np plushie... it is always a nice surprise to know that there are nice neopians out there.

Fri Aug 20, 2004 4:37 pm

*poke poke* Well, my birthday is close by, and I want a Royal Paint Brush... :P

Harharhar, just kiddin'. No one would give me anything anyway, seeing as 3 out of 4 of my pets are worth like 2 million Neopoints. ^_^

Giving stuff to poor deserving people is always a happy feeling. :D

Fri Aug 20, 2004 4:40 pm

now if i could only find those poor deserving people amongst all the 'i want' posts
