Dear Members of PPT Forums,

I have something I would like to discuss something with you. I have noticed over the past couple months that the way we as staff are being treated has started to degenerate. I am not sure why this is happening and we do not blame any singular person, or incident. In fact we cannot really blame anyone in this issue, but it is still an issue that has come up time and time again. So we would like to reiterate.

When a moderator locks your thread, we do not mean you any personal embarrassment or harm. We generally do this because the thread breaks the rules, is being flamed upon, or is a repeat. We don’t mean you any personal duress when we lock a thread, we’re not trying to be evil, or mean. We try to do it as professionally as possible without anyone getting upset.

If we reprimand you in a thread and ask you to please not argue further in the thread, please stop arguing in the thread. It’s not fair to us or any other member when you continue to do so. The staff care about PPT, we love it, it’s our job and our pleasure to be there, but when you argue with us and don’t listen to our requests it’s very upsetting. We understand that sometimes feelings can be hurt, and we do try to avoid this at all costs, but if you are indeed ‘hurt’ or upset by a thread, rather then taking a pot-shot at us on the thread or on another thread, why not PM us and explain calmly and rationally that you are upset? It would be easier on all parties involved.

When a moderator PM’s you with a warning, or a note, or a strike, rather then losing your temper and yelling at us, insulting us or being angry at us, please take a step back, look at what has been said, look back at the rules that we have pointed out, and then read the terms and conditions that you signed when joining the forums. We enforce our rules as fairly as we possibly can. We do not single people out. If a moderator in any case does feel that they should not be dealing with a member they will ask another moderator to take care of it. We are not evil people, we try to do everything as nicely as we possibly can. So why do so many people treat us poorly? Why do so many have to be snarky and mean to us. Moderators are only humans. We have feelings too. When you reply and get upset at us do you think we are magically unhurt? We are not impervious to your barbs or to your stings. We get upset. We can get hurt. We can become unhappy to be on the forums. Please. Think before you get mad at us. If you really do have a problem with us, PM one of our wonderful administrators (and remember, the Administrators ALSO have feelings).

When you come onto the forums and start making demands of us, or you make posts that sound generally non-understanding and cranky, it’s not fair. We run the forums as best we can. We’re not paid to be there, we’re there because we love it, we love the job and we love the place. Can you please be civil when addressing us, we try to do so with you. We don’t wander around calling you snot faced twits, or jerks, and we generally do try to avoid telling you that you’re doing a bad job posting and that you suck at what you do. So why do you do it to us?

We know that you’re all wonderful generous and amazing people. And sometimes people get upset. But please do watch your tone when you post. Please do try to treat us fairly too. Please try to be friendly in response to us. It makes our job easier, it makes us happier, and it will leave so many other people happy as well. We’re only human. We’re generally nice and we like it here. So why not make our lives easier and be a bit nice to us in return?
