Are you asking this same question to NL about their use of InvisionFree? oO

I know tons of large Neopets forums that use phpBB. And besides, as Dragonfire said, why pay for a forum system when this one is running fine?

I see no reason to change. However, if this becomes one of those "I'm going to hack the forum to prove you wrong about having this kind of board" then i'll be rather miffed.

Speaking of which, time to make a new update of PPT and it's files/databases etc. :) Thanks for the reminder.

vBulletin -> I've offered it but the administration prefers phpBB because it's something we're all familiar with, and it's a good forum system. it's up there with vbulletin (watch out! Controversy!) but I'm hanging on the phpbb3 release :D

Yeah...remember to actually have the forum backup...and a couple of backups of that. And no coke near the servers.

Ditto. If the development board is any sign of how it's gonna be at least once the beta is out....*geekish drool*

Ooh yeah. phpBB 3. That's another reason. :P

Also, one of the reasons why (I think) phpBB is popular is because you install it with the bare essentials, then you can add on the hacks to make the forum look how you want. One of the things I don't like about the paid forums is that they pack on a bunch of junk that some forums don't need.

Haha, what's the difference?

Why be so negative about what kind of forum PPT uses? If PPT wants to use phpBB and it's been fine for this long, why remove it, and remove all threads, discussions, and of course make people post all over again lol? Plus PAY for a new type of forum just to keep it running when the current one is running fine and totally FREE?

phpBB, vBulletin .. both are nice and work well, and perhaps vBulletin really offers so much security and blah but,

Do we care? No.

So drop it, dude.
phpBB pwns for now xD

I keep reading that phpBB is much more vulnerable, but I also keep reading that the other softwares, including vb, are not notably less vulnerable. Whatever the case, keeping up to date and regularly backing up the forum should be sufficient, and I'm sure the staff at least do the former.

Can't one transfer all the content from phpBB to vBulletin? Whatever the case, though, phpBB isn't so bad that it warrants a drastic change if the staff and members don't want it (and that appears to be the case).

Yes, it was mentioned back on the frist page but there's also no real reason at this point either to change.

My preference goes to phpbb.

The most simple and efficient to create a forum, imho ;)
If you haven't got much time, and want to see what the new phpbb3 can offer, just try it out on this host : free forums

Hope you will enjoy it :)
