Divide the NNV forum?

Sat Mar 05, 2005 2:37 pm

I'm not sure if this topic has come up before, but perhaps the NNV board should be divided into two parts.

Everytime I go there I find that it is rather messy and filled with many active threads. Usually at least 10-20 people are holding set contests. Theres at least 10 very active "werewolf" style games or games inspired by that game that Scott brought us. Then there's another batch of "person above you" style games. Usually there's a give away or two floating around. This probably accounts for about 50-60 very active threads.

Would it be possible to divide it? For instance put set contests and giveaways on a seperate board (it could still be worthless to your post count, just be an organizational step). And have all the game type threads grouped in that board.

Oooh that sounds like a really good idea to me, we could have a 'Games room' and a ...... um can't think of another name but you know what I mean. It would make it alot easier to look through.

Do you mean like it was before the forum went down? When it was divided into sub sections?

Yeah, I figured they didn't do that here because they couldn't or something, but that's exactly what I mean.

I figure it is up to the admins to figure out how it should be done because they know what can and can't be done here.

i agree, i think thats a really good idea. there are sooooo many active threads in NNV at the moment, it becomes hard to follow the ones you're following or to look for a specific set contest.

It's all up to the admins whether to reinstall the subforum hack or not, or whether to create a fully new contests board.

Another way to perhaps "organise", though, would be to sticky every single forum game, then let all the contests sit as their own threads (or vice versa). However, I doubt many of you would be happy to have to flip to page 2 to see what you're looking for.

NNV may be cluttered, but to me it seems fine and functional the way it is and I'd rather have it like what it is now than the second idea...

I like it now, the only thing I wish was that The Leetlemen Campaign could be put back on neopets board. It died on NNV.

Good idea though but I am fine with it now. I only think there should be a set contest board.

The leetlemen campaign does not belong on the neopets boards. It's up to people whether or not they go to other boards. And topics will not be forced upon members who don't want to read them.

Honestly, all that I can see that doing is making more work for moderators.

Well, I think it would actually help moderators, as a lot of threads get pushed down the NNV board very quickly. I mean, if someone started a set contest, it would be quickly pushed down the board and people may forget about it, which is not good for the user. So if NNV was split into "Games" for the games that have sprung up (eg. WW, BotS, PPTSurvivor, PPT Monopoly etc.) and "Contests" for set contests and word contests (eg. Person Above You!, What's On Your Ctrl+V?" etc. ) then it would make things a lot easier to find.

What does threads being pushed down have to do with helping the moderators?

I think Ixistant means that currently the threads are being pushed down very quickly and many are forgotten, which makes it hard to keep track of. With the sub-sections, it's more organised and it's easier for members to find things.

In terms of finding certain threads it is definitely easier for members. But the moderating is probably the same as people will post a lot either way, maybe even more, if they can find things easily. :P

Once upon a time the Set contests were held in the Sig and Av board.

I know I held the first one there...and I'm prob to blame for them all now lol

What wrong with putting them back on the Sig and Av's board?

The sig board is specificly for requesting avatars and signatures from graphic makers without any hitches so to speak. By the time you factor in a prize for a request, it would become something entirely different than a simple request. It would be a contest and it would belong in a different board.

I wholeheartedly concur with this idea. There should be a separate board for set contests and giveaways, while the PPT games like Werewolf etc and other word games in another board. This would make things much more organised, IMO, and I don't see how it would create more work for moderators.
