I have an older version and tried that and still had the same problem
if nobody knows a clever way of uninstalling it without using the uninstall button i might just reformat my computer again. Its annoying though as i will have to redownload the updates i downloaded, meaning another huge chunk of my quota gone
Edit: Problem solved! I tried uninstalling the codec pack i had installed, and then quicktime uninstalled happily and itunes installed beautifully. And since i'd copied my music back onto my laptop, including my old itunes folder my library is all set up with its ratings, play counts and playlists just as i left it before i reformatted it - yaay!
