I am asking on behalf of my boyfriend and his laptop. :)

Every time his laptop starts, his McAfee pops up with some error saying it can't start. Autoprotect is not on, and when you try to turn it on it refuses and another error pops up (sorry I don't have the exact errors, his laptop is off at the moment...I could ask him later what the exact wording on the errors is). I'm guessing he'd have to reinstall the antivirus software?

The other thing is, his laptop also runs ungodly slow, and tends to freeze up often. I've gone thru and removed all the spyware I could find for him, and defragmented. I don't think there is any overheating problem. Is there anything else I could do before resulting to reformatting/reinstalling Windows?

Thanks in advance for any input!

My advice, delete all software that you think could be the problem. Including the McAfee. Then try reinstalling. Sometimes programs have problems, and that's all that works.

If that doesn't work, and defragging doesn't work, you might have to do an entire system restore.

Reinstall McAfee and run a virus scan. If that doesn't work, try a system restore. If that doesn't work, you'll have to reformat the drive. It sounds like there may be a virus running in the background that's sucking up all the system's resources.

Makes me glad I use Comcast, they offer free downloads of all the McAfee products :) But good luck finding those disks.
