I tried "adam" it said it was in use. But "Default Profile" worked.
I had 100's of bookmarks on firefox and a bunch of stuff installed.
How do I get default/adam working again?

I still need help with fixing that.
I really liked FireFox better than IE.

If you have a cable modem then usually it gives you a new IP address when you switch it off from the plug and leave it a few minutes. Next time choose a nice name eh?!?! :P
In some cases, no. Try using a proxy. Don't spoof. :P

Try Right Clicking on my computer - just once. That should give you the opportunity to click on "properties." It'll be down at the bottom.

Uninstall it or reinstall it is my guess.

I've been thinking about getting XP Service Pack 2, but I've heard a lot of bad press about it. What's so bad about it? And should I get it?

Thanks.

I've been wondering this too, has anyone had problems after installing Service Pack 2?

Many.

When I installed SP2, I noticed that my computer's system cache and pagefile was being bogged down, as well as my RAM and system resources being drained. As a result, my computer would run really really slow.

I uninstalled SP2, and my system ran fine again.

SP2 is also not good for business computers that are set up on a network. They will run into problems such as not being able to see the domain, not being able to see another computer, conflicts with firewalls, restricted user privileges, resetting user settings after reboot on a username without administrative privileges, etc.

From my standpoint, I have not had any good experiences with SP2, and I don't see the point in installing it until I find the problems fixed, or when it is truely an absolute necessity.

The thing about the service packs is that they reveal all the holes in the security of the OS - So a malicious person can look at everything in sp2 and say "aha! i'll exploit that" and then people who don't have sp2 are then vulnerable to his malodorous ways.

Well, try going into

C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

and your old profile name should be there. Click on it and then inside there should be a load of things such as Cache, cache.trash, extensions and so on. Copy all of this, go to the new profile you have created, delete all the things in there, and then press paste. And all your old stuff will be there.

Ok, I have a problem with Ad-aware SE.
Every time it gets to 38388 scanned it freezes....
What can I do?
It freezes alot and never works.

Also, my brothers computer he goes on the net and then MSN freezes.
I ran adaware and spybot.
But he didn't update the adaware for a long long time.
Why would MSN be freezing?
And why is his computer so slow?

First of all try uninstalling and reinstalling ad aware se and see if the problem is still there.

For your brother, do a virus scan, download AVG which is free, and see that. Also, update ad-aware... defrag the hard drive too.

I was watching a Flash movie and when it was done I closed it, but the BG music is still playing. I can't wait for it to stop because it loops. This happened yesterday, too.

HOW CAN I GET IT TO STOP?!

I have spyware on my computer, but everytime I try to delete it using this program I half, it "freezes" and nothing gets deleted. Well, sometimes it does, but there is one thing that my spyware program detected that simply cannot be deleted as my computer freezes. I think its called DSO Exploit. I've tried running the program in Safe Mode, still freezes, I think its the cause of some of my major problems.

How do I delete it? Help!

Are you comfortable with editing the registry? If so:

1) Make a note of the location of the exploit shown in Spybot, something similar to:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1614895754-73586283-725345543-500\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and Press Enter to open the Windows Registry Editor

3) Find the location of the exploit above in the registry by clicking on the pluses(+) next to each title

4) After opening the Zones section and clicking on '0' look to the right window, under 'name' is the key '1004' and the type is REG_SZ simply right click and delete this REG_SZ value. Then right click and create new>DWORD Value, name it 1004, then right click on that and goto modify, give it the Hex Value of 3, Click ok.

If there is only a DWORD Value for the key (in this case 1004), then double click on the key and change the HEX value to 3 and click Ok.

5) Close the Registry Editor and Reboot your computer

6) The DSO Exploit should now be removed and it should no longer appear in the Spybot Search and Destroy log as a problem.

If you do do it, do not deviate from the instructions. Registry editing is fairly easy, as long as you make sure you pay attention!
