Firefox as Default Explorer

I have just reinstalled windows on my machine and decided to start using firefox instead of IE... and then i remembered WHY i had stuck with IE in the past - when i recieve an email through hotmail, windows live messenger has a little popup window telling me. Is there any way of when i click on that window, getting it to open my email in firefox rather than IE?

I have a guess as to what may fix the problem, but it may not be what you want:

Open Firefox, go to Tools, go to Options, go to the Advanced tab, click General, go down to System Defaults, click the "Check Now" button, when the window pops up click Yes.

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. Also, links within windows live messenger default to IE. Problem is that I use firefox, everyone else in my family uses IE >.<
