Limewire/port question

Sat Jan 21, 2006 9:41 am

Does anyone know how to get around a blocked port on a network? I'm using limewire, and the school blocked the port... I tried changing it on the advanced options, and it became "Turbocharged," but no data transferred.

If not, does anyone know of any other software that would avoid this problem?

If they blocked the port, then they wouldn't want you to use limewire. :)

I'm sure it was a mistake that they blocked it... I just don't want them to have to go through the trouble of unblocking it... I'm really a good Samaritan, I swear... :D

Schools will never let you use a program which illegally downloads music/movies/etc.. (Depends on where you are -- but even if it's legal, they would rarely let you download anything).

And this isn't the best place to be asking a type of question like this.

I'm assuming this is purely a technical question, and not one related to downloading. So...this is being moved from Misc. Disc. to Computing and Technology. Huzzah.

Agrees with Ammer. I doubt this was a mistake that Limewire was blocked at your school. There's way too much that's either illegal or harmful that could be downloaded from there. I wouldn't allow it here if my roomies wanted to use such a thing. They'd have to go elsewhere and risk someone else's computer.

You could always use Azureus.

I don't recommend going around school security, however easy it is. Schools are unrelenting in their punishments, and unfortunately most minors are not considered "citizens", so most of the so-called unalienable rights don't belong to us... (sorry, bad personal experience with my dictator...i mean principal)...
