Fencing?

Oh wow, now you guys are making me want to start taking it myself. It sounds so cool! I'd probably be afraid to do the actual fencing part, though - I'm a scaredy-cat like that.

FINALLY found a place where I can start taking fencing! I've been there for about a month, and I just got my foil yesterday^^ Its name is Kagayakanatsukubou, which means shiny metal poking stick.

I'm trying to get a couple of my friends to join up, because I don't know anyone there, and I could really use a couple of people to n 00b with.

I fenced in PE in seventh grade. It was loads of fun, but most of the class didn't take it seriously, ie. they didn't follow the rules and just waved the foil around or they just had you poke them once to get it over with.

Fencing in the seventh grade... back in my day we ran around chasing an inflated pigs bladder...

Good luck with it I used go to an after-school fencing class a long, long time ago (practically in the dark ages) and it was great fun.

I'd love to try fencing. I'll probably start next year, when I go to high school. In fact, I'd be well-served to start learning about it now, as this kid I'm currently stalking (lol) loves the sport.

I haven't used a saber yet, but I hear you can get pretty gruesome bruises with them. OO also: don't use epee. Epee is just like a heavier version of foil with no off-targets and no right-of-way. So...confusing...(without those two). You spend time extending your arm so you get right-of-way, when you could just lunge.

Took fencing for about a year. LOVED it. Awesome fun.
For the past 3 years my friend switched her foil for a saber. She has the nastiest bruises from it though. (Loves to brag )
I would concider Epee the more cautious type of fencing. Though less exciting, it simulates more of real combat, that which every wound counts rather then just certain areas

I only quit fencing to take Japanese kendo; which I later stopped after 2 years because of studies
Miss fencing alot because its less tense then kendo. But its hard to decide which one is my favorite (disipline vs. stress reliever)

yeahh. I did epee, which has its advantages and disadvantages. It has more of a range for points, but at the same time, you have to have a precise poke instead of slapping it against a specific part.

i started fencing when i was 10 because my brother had taken it on. he quit a while after. i fenced for not that long, but i DID go to fencing camp. it was a lot of work. i had this special foil that had a pink and brown leathery pad that i loved but then it bent too badly @_@

i stopped shortly after our maestro went to princeton to teach. so i've been fencing as an average dudette for about 4 years with a lot of jump ropes involved and i still have a tournament t-shirt that fits me!

I got to do it in kindergarden once.The olimpics came and we go to do 5 olimpic sports.I loved wheelchair basketball to.It's hard though!
