Being a Welshman, I'm gonna have to say Tom Jones.

The best voice I've ever heard was that of Mylene Farmer (French). She has this beautiful, soft voice...it's lovely. I also rather like Martina McBride (country). She's got some major range, to say the least.

I'm trying to think of some male singers that really knock my socks off, or even some mainstream females, but I'm having a bit of difficulty thinking of any at the moment.

My fave voices are:
Tom Delonge
Davey Havok
Tim Armstrong
Ninnette Terhart
Jon Bon Jovi
Billie Joe Armstrong
Ville Valo

I'm not an awesome singer, but I am a trained chorister, Ammer, so I do know the strain of singing lots of demanding songs after each other (and more demanding than Evanescence songs too), and songs with tricky high notes to hit. I don't think she's all up to scratch.

The people I choose can sing demanding songs in sequence and still sound smooth and strong and not falter.

Igg, I understand what you're saying but you're making it sound like you have heard all of Evanescence's song and that singing any of them one after the other is not as difficult.

I honestly don't see Amy Lee as a bad singer but than again, I am a huge fan or her and the rest of the group. It may be true that at various performances, Amy may not be able to hit all of her notes, but that doesn't make her a horrible singer. I admit, she sounds better acoustically.

Amy Lee can sing either way but she can lack a little when performing in a concert or more accurately, a fast song. But when she performs accoustically, she sounds exactly like her album. And I am not kidding. If you hear her perform a song such as "Everybody's Fool" or "Going Under" accoustically, she hits every note properly. I am not even pulling your leg on this one.

I don't think you're pulling my leg, Ammer, but you seem to be under the impression I haven't heard her sing live/acoustically.

I do know what I'm talking about.

I didn't say she was *bad* (you've got to understand I use 'pants' as quite a throwaway phrase, especially when it's with regards to 'best' voices).

Oh, I believe I forgot to mention. Amy Lee has never had voice training in her life. I believe that her voice has developed well without it.

Ammer.

Everytime I click a thread where you've posted about Amy Lee/Evanescence, and I've disagreed, my heart fills with dread.

Maybe you should work for them?

She's not the only singer who's supposedly never had voice training in his or her life. There are plenty of them floating about. It doesn't suddenly bump their singing skill to have a voice like that without training.

I'm one of those of the opinion that you can't learn to sing well. You can learn to sing adequately, but if you've not got a good voice to start off with, you'll never be fantastic.

I have a huge list of singers better than her. That is all.

Working for them? That would be a nice experience.

I hope I'm not coming off as trying to force my opinions on you, I don't enjoy it when people do it to me, therefore doing it to others would make upset. If I am, I apologise.

I understand and respect your opinion that she isn't a a good singer compared to others. I am always willing to hear other opinions on Evanescence.

Amy Lee and Paul McCoy. Paul can stretch his voice out really well and Amy Lee just play rocks. :D And Skye Sweetnam and Kelly Clarkson after that. They have nice femine voices I guess. o_O

Skye Sweetnam? I don't think she has an awesome voice. She sounds like Fefe Dobson. I mean, they both have original voices but I know a ton of singers better than them.

I really don't think Amy Lee is that great a singer. I know a girl who's thirteen years old, never had a lesson of voice training, and can sing Alicia Keys' songs without hitting a bad note. Amy Lee's voice is shaky, I find.

As far as females go, I think that Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Janice Joplyn, Joan Jett and Debbie Harry have/had fabulous voices. For males I'd say Robert Plant (of course <3), Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Joe Strummer and Joey Ramone have/had fantastic voices.

Martina McBride, Donna Summer, Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride, Toby Keith, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, and Martina McBride.

Emphasis on Martina McBride, obviously.

2nd Placers

Christina Aguleira (or however she spells it)
Dixie Chicks
Blaine Larsen (or whatever his name is, he's the guy that sings "How Do You Get That Lonely", bonus points to him because he's such a skinny little young man, but with such a powerful voice)

Honorable Mention

SHeDAISY
Kelly Clarkson
Amy Lee (for sheer uniqueness)
Jessica Simpson

Chass, honey, I know you adore Chester (and so do I!) but... it's just mainly in-tune shouting. :/

Dexter Holland. :P

Name the band and get a cookie.

I don't know. I've always thought Vanessa Carlton and Michellle Branch sounded great. Amy Lee is pretty good too

Well I don't really know. Don't ask me about things I don't like. :P lol
