Katharine McPhee

Sun Mar 04, 2007 6:47 am

Some might know her as the runner up to a little competition called American Idol, but Katharine McPhee has released her self-titled album and her first single "Over It", which in my opinion is amazing.

Does anyone else like her? I heard some negative things about her album, I thought it was supposed to be good? Or is "Over It" the only good song on the album?

She only had one real good performance on Idol, but I gave the album a try anyways. It's not good...mostly because she doesn't know which genre to stick to. She attempts to sound R&B in some songs but they just don't work.

Oddly enough, I like Over It, but it's the only song on the album I like.

Everytime I hear Over It, I want to shoot myself.
I like the music and the words, but it's in the wrong key. XP It...doesn't sound like her. o_o

Everyone I know only likes the one song, however.

I loved her on 'Idol', but I hate her album. She could've done so much better. Hopefully she'll be like Kelly and bring it strong come next album, here's hoping!

I enjoyed some of her album, but it's not as good as I expected from an Idol runner-up.

I love Kat and I wanted her to win Idol, but from what I heard of the CD, it does not suit her at all.

I remember McPhee being all soulful on Americal Idol.
What happened...?
I was flipping channels and saw her new single on TRL and had to convince myself that it was her. It's so ... mainstream and pop-ish.

As a friend of mine said, "SHE SOUNDS LIKE AN ANGEL BUT HER SONG IS CRAP".

How rude!

The way her album sounds (so maintstream, and unlike her) probably has something to do with the record company she signed with. Even though she could sing, she didn't win. By appealing to the general population, they aren't taking a risk on her. Or something along those lines.

That's usually what happens with the first album for many of the winners and/or runners-up, probably because the companies know they're taking a big chance with these people. Kelly Clarkson barely got any artistic freedom on her first album, and has anyone even heard BO's album? Justin Guarini had a good voice but he really faded into obscurity, but that probably had more to do with the movie. (But Kelly is really successful!)

Former "Idols" who switched to a different contract: Kelly, Clay, Fantasia. People who got dropped: Diana, Tamyra, Justin Guarini

That's why I'm glad that Chris didn't win now because he was able to make the kind of record HE wanted, and it's working out for him! (I mean, it's sold 3x as much as Taylor's so far)

Kat has an ok voice so maybe she'll be able to bounce back if she makes another album and doesn't get dropped (she hasn't sold much)...

Well her album was just released and "Over It" is doing well.

I don't think they'll drop her based on the first two months of sales if it's been that long.
