songs that have people's names in them

Mon Sep 05, 2005 5:08 am

okay so i made a facebook group called My Name Is Part of a Song and I'm Sick of People Singing It to Me, and i need to know who to invite. i already invited:

sarahs
jennys/jennifers
aishas
melissas
carolines
jacks
marias
charles..es..s...
lucys/lucilles
sallys
maggies
eleanors
allisons
girls with the last name "robinson"

do you know of any names i'm forgetting? i specifically want songs with lyrics. i know that there's a lot of instrumental songs with people's names, but i want songs that can be sung to poor people such as myself (i'm a sarah) who have heard them a thousand times before.

also there is a deborah in my group and i don't know why. can anyone confirm that she has a song with her name in it?

thanks y'all

*sings*

"You can see the daisies in her footsteps,
Dandelions... butterflies...
I wanna be Kate!"

I sing Kate by Ben Folds Five to my friend Kate all too often ;)

I remember Disco 2000 by Pulp has someone called Deborah in it...
"Your name is Deborah... De-bor-ah. It never suited ya! (suited ya!)"

*hmms* I wish my name would turn up in a song... it's very unlikely :(

You may not count this, but...

Deck the halls with bows of holly, falalalalalalalala...

I get that one all the time. Especially around Christmas.

Being named Sandra, I want to punch in the mouth the next person who sings "look at meeeee, I'm Sandra Deeeeee." They all think they're the first person to ever make the connection...

I get the same thing, and I'm Cassandra. (Fortunately it tends to take people longer. ;P)

Susan. Susan by Aimee Mann.

Oh, susan, you were clued in
You knew just how this thing would go
A prognosis that was hopeless
From the very first domino
I guess I see it all in hindsight
I tried to keep perspective despite
The flash of the fuse, the smell of cordite

Now I’m in that place again
And I know he can’t come in to get me
And someday he will live to regret me
Susan, I can see it now

Oh, suzie--they get to me
They can really be wearying
But he threw me rope and buoy
Let me use his decoder ring
There must have been some kind of parade
We kissed for a while to see how it played
And pulled the pin on another grenade

Now I’m in that place again
And I know he can’t come in to get me
And someday he will live to regret me
Suzie, I can see it now

Oh, susan, the hope of fusion
Is that the halo will reappear
It may be pure illusion
But it’s beautiful while it’s here
I had some trouble with the goodbye
I checked my roman candle supply
And watched the vapor trail in the sky

But I’m in that place again
And I know he can’t come in to get me
And someday he will live to regret me
Susan, I can see it now

I can't believe Layla hasn't been mentioned :P

What'll you do when you get lonely
And nobody's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long.
You know it's just your foolish pride.

CHORUS - Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.

Chorus

Let's make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don't say we'll never find a way
And tell me all my love's in vain.

Chorus

Chorus

Lola by The Kinks- though that song *is* about a tranny, so be careful about referencing it to anyone you know called Lola.

What about "Julia" by Fefe Dobson?

Tell me this is not the end, Julia
You my love, my oldest friend, Julia
I see you with flowers in your hair, Julia
Running around without a care
Your days were numbered, yeah

And I want you to know
You're doing this to yourself
Time to show me the will to change
And I swear I will help you, I will
I will shine my light on you

Let the sun light show your face, Julia
No one knows you in this place, Julia
I see there's a distance in your eyes, Julia
Can I even reach you if i try
Or is this goodbye

And I want you to know
You're doing this to yourself
Time to show me the will to change
And I swear I will help you, I will
I will shine my light on you

I will shine my light of hope
And change and everything
That might have been
If you'd only hear my warning
If you 'd only hear me calling
I would shine my light on you

Tell me this is not the end, Julia
You my love, my oldest friend, Julia
You put your faith and dreams that cared, Julia
Lying with you, your breath so still
She couldn't be trusted, yeah

And I want you to know
You're doing this to yourself
Time to show me the will to change
And I swear I will help you, I will
I will shine my light on you

"Diane" by Guster

Lyrics:
The secrets that we keep
We say them in our sleep
and wrestle down our souls if we would speak
I watched you board a train in the London rain
and waved bye-bye as you slipped out of view
Diane
We'll make it out together
In your dreams when the smile now comes,
you're mumbling words with a lazy tongue.
We lie together when we say its love,
who were you just thinking of, Diane?
Diane
Diane, I don't say it, but I know you know
The theme returns so deep
and visits us in sleep
to define the you and I as we
So we pass the time and occupy our minds
and close our eyes and hope that we'll be fine
Diane
We'll make it out together
And I may leave in time you'll see
I'll come right back for you

Ramona by Guster

Lyrics:
Ramona, where have you been?
I couldn't go to sleep 'til you came in
Ramona, you're Miss Oklahoma
And you miss Oklahoma
I'll get you what you want

'Cause there were days
When a refrain
would brighten our corner
of Hickory Lane
When you would sing that song for me
Just like your favorite singer

Why'd you have to be so nice?
A wink and a girlie smile
Why'd you have to punch my eye?
That was something
But did you want me to stay?

When I was younger and thought of myself
I never dreamed I'd become like this
A snap of your fingers an end to the argument
Anything for you, love

'Cause there were days
When a refrain
would brighten our corner
of Hickory Lane
When you would sing that song for me
The only one you know
But I know now
not at the start
We're going to pieces
We're falling apart
So come and sing that song for me
Just like your favorite singer

though neither of these are my name :P

oh and there's Mary. Lots of song with that name, a particular favorite being "Mary Had A Little Lamb." I don't think I need to post lyrics for that. ;) A friend of mine is named Mary, she is somewhat irked by this (luckily it has died down a bit now we're going to college...kind of, haha).

more to come perhaps, *checks out iTunes library*

Mambo No.5 - Lou Bega

Ladies and gentlemen
This is Mumbo No.5

One, two, three, four, five
Everybody's in the car, so come on lets drive
Let's ride to the liqueur-store around the corner
The boys say they want some gin and juice
But I really don't wanna

Beerbust like I had last week
I must stay deep
Because talk is cheap
I like Angela, Pamela, Cassandra and Rita
And as I continue you know
They getting sweeter

So what can I do I really beg and you my Lord
To me flirting it's just like sport, anything fly
It's all good let me dump it
Please set in the trumpet

A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man

Mumbo No.5

Jump up and down go and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound
Put your hand on the ground
Take one step left
And one step right
One to the front and one to the side
Clap your hands once
And clap your hands twice
And if it looks like this
Then you are doing it right

A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man

Trumpet
The trumpet
Mumbo No.5

A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man

I do all
To fall in love with a girl like you
You can't run and you can't hide
You and me gonna touch the sky

Mumbo No. 5!
