Why is there not a thread already about it?! Woah man.

Well, I open the discussion with questions, because questions are FUN!

1. How many times have you seen it (the movie)?

2. How many times have you seen the play?

3. If you have seen both, which do you prefer?

4. Have you read the book? How does it compare?

5. (Nobody ever asks this one.) How did you like Gerard Butler as the Phantom - and a character who doesn't die, for a change! (Apparently his characters always die in movies.)

Out of curiosity why didn't you answer your own questions?

And i'm not a big fan of questions, so... i'm not gonna answer them.
I've never seen the play, but i've heard the songs before, the soundtracks, and the movie played in my house for two days strait because of my dad over the weekend, until my mom told him to shut it off.
Frankly, the movie would have been better if they'd chosen different singers. Charlotte Church should have been given the role of Christine, but she wasn't. She is the better singer. I'll agree that although the role was written for Sarah Brightman, she just wouldn't have been an appropriate actress for the part now (she is getting older, and Christine is a younger role).
HOWEVER.
I think that they totally mucked up the role of the Phantom. He's supposed to be an older guy, they could have easily gotten the original phantom (or heaven forbid, Antonio Banderas) to take that roll. But again, they chose not too.
The visuals were great in the movie, but I really feel that the singing wasn't as good as what it would have been if Church had been given the roll of Christine.

Hmm.. long time ago I went to NY and saw the broadway play.... BUT we were in the very back and I fell asleep through it All I remember is there was alot of glittery looking stuff on stage and uhm.. yeah that's about it.
I did buy myself a porcelain phantom mask though which I loved.

And uh yeah.. other than that I really don't have any interest in seeing the movie. Just watching the commercials of it gets on my nerves with that singing.

No one ever claimed I was friendly, or nice, or kind, or fluffy.
Frankly, I like to say the opposite.
I still sorta answered the questions in the end, just not in question form. *shrug* Glad i'm making someone happy though.

1. Just once, in the theater. But we just rented it, so I'll watch it a few times before we have to return it.

2. Again, just once. But first chance I get, I'm going to see it again. And again and again and again and *explodes*.

3. The play. Without a doubt. The movie was good, but the play was just... breathtaking.

4. No. Weren't there a lot of books?

5. Well... it's complicated. I liked him because he was hot. But the Phantom isn't supposed to be hot. He's supposed to be deformed, emotionally and spiritually tortured. GB conveyed that, but I couldn't get past his hotness. So while I think he portrayed the role well, he wasn't really right for the part.

6. Not in the slightest.

I've got the movie on DVD.

Never seen the play.

The book... is different, I enjoyed both. I think really though, the Phantom can be... different, depending on who plays him. I liked Gerard Butler's Phantom, but would've enjoyed Michael Crawford style Phantom too. I've listened to the soundtrack.

1; but I'm gonna buy the DVD once my dad gets payed; so that'll turn into about... a million.

2. How many times have you seen the play?
I've heard it once, seen the transcript lots, listened to midis from the musical, and almost had the chance to go to NY to see it, but couldn't. So unfortunately, none...

Can't answer; for I haven't seen the play..

I've started on a translation of it, 'tis rather confuzzling...

Very emotional sounding; but too good looking. As PotO in 15 minutes says:

I've been inspired to create a shrine to the movie on my closet door. Really.

I don't seem as PotO obsessed as I claim; but I talk and squeal with my friend about it, every single day... Quoting PotO in 15 minutes... Bursting out with random PotO songs... Listening to the midis for hours upon hours... using a PotO song for the talent show... And I'm going to create a PotO family on the Sims 2, once I find the disk.
