Dear NBC,

Please stop ruining my favourite shows by Americanizing them.

Love,

Chanel

......

Seriously now, I just saw a commerical for the "new" NBC show, "The Office." This is their version/copy of the great BBC comedy "The Office." Same story, premise, setting, the difference being NBC casted a bunch of American actors for their version.

Maybe NBC forgot, but they tried this schtick already with "Coupling." The only good thing about the NBC/American "Coupling" was the remixed, upbeat version of the opening theme song "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps." The American Coupling actors were not similar at all to the original British counterparts. This was most evident in my favorite "Coupling" character Jeff Murdock, who was played by the talented Richard Coyle in the original.

We know you're hurting because you don't have "Friends" and "Frasier" anymore, but seriously... this Americanized "The Office" is not going to help.

This makes me sad.

So that show Coupling was a 'remake' of a british show? Wow... we just get all our ideas from overseas.. sheesh!
lol...
Did that show even come on? I remember seeing alot of commercials for it, but don't actually ever remember it airing.

NBC is just struggling now.... if it wasn't for Scrubs, Leno and Conan.. I wouldn't watch that network at all.

I saw a clip for the American "Office" and I must say I was appalled. It was so embarrassingly bad. :( Grrness.

At least I haven't seen the American version on my beloved Coupling.

So, given that americans can't emulate british comedy, it'll be friends in an office with a gay guy.

I've never seen "The Office," but I know this can only end badly. British humor just doesn't fly in America; I don't know why, but I guess being an ocean apart has allowed our senses of humor to evolve in entirely different directions.

Well, it seemed to be a pretty big hit...

Though BBC America watchers general get British humour.

I saw one episode. Stu was almost in tears, he was laughing so hard, I just...wasn't.

Don't seem to quite have the British comedy yet, though I suppose I'm better than some.

Um... I forget. The finale was excellent though :D

I seriously want to know what's going on in the little head of whoever came up with this "new idea." I mean the only times that I can think of where a British comedy was Americanized....and worked were "All in the Family" and "Sanford and Son." But come on NBC... that was waaay to long ago. Plus back then there was no BBC America to better educate the American audience on what the original versions were like.

And while we're talking about Americans stealing British shows, I gotta add the original British version of "Whose Line is it Anyway." Clive Anderson rocks baby! (he was the host)

I was quite displeased with this news aswell.

Americans tend not to "get" british humor, because it generally has to do with linguistics, and humor through words, whereas american "humor" as we like to call it is filled with tim allen grunts and TV personality morons, such as "joey" just generally being a nuisance.

Though, when someone gets a football to the crotch, I tend to laugh.

Yes... Very much so

I loved the original!! I used to watch it whenever it came on. That was a long long time ago though... I remember they had the actor who played Gimli on it quite a bit and that's about it lol.
