But there's always information on the first post that has information on these artists and a link to their site, which almost always have music.

I'm not saying any of them really deserve to be in the running for best artist of 2006 (I don't believe any should), but so long as there is music and people can access, there shouldn't be any problem with that.

I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers; but I've gotta go with Bob Dylan on this one. I love him more.

Partially because Eva Avila's CD has only been released in Canada, and I don't believe Stefi D. has made one yet. Taylor Hicks' full-length CD came out last week and I think Chris' came out on either the same day or a couple weeks before it (Dawn can correct me if I'm wrong).
Kuge is right, though. Unfair advantage. Most bands when they release a CD, they gain fans by people who are either "Oh, hey. Never heard of these guys, let's buy this CD and try it out", or people who find them on sites like PureVolume or MySpace. Just like I found out about a singer I found out I really liked, named B (Her last name shant be Smurf anymore. XD), I found her on MySpace.

Of course, I WAS gonna have Blue October on, until I found out their first CD release in 1999. XP Maybe I'll have Hinder. Maybe.

Oh, and everyone will be happy to know that Bob Dylan's latest release is no longer The Great Burrito Extortion Case. XD

Bob Dylan is off-key, but then he doesn't do that... '90s-pop-star thing with his voice, and I can't say I could do better.

And you can tell perfectly well what he's saying (although not always what it means - I think Mr. Tambourine Man is about death, but that's one whack conceit if it is), whereas I always thought the Red Hot Chili Peppers were saying "With the birds of shame, it's so lonely with you" until I looked it up for the purpose of this poll.

But then again, when I say I like folk songs, people think of Bob Dylan-type stuff, and that's not what I mean at all.

Hitchhiker's Guide is nudging me toward Bob Dylan. Even my extensive-as-it-is-irrational '90s nostalgia can't warm me towards the tortured pop star voice.

Bob's not off-key, he's just nasally. XD At least, as far as I know.

What kind of folk music do you listen to?

I'm going to go with Bob Dylan. I don't particularly like his voice, but the songs are good. RHCP... ech. I could listen to them if I had to, but I definitely wouldn't choose to listen to them.

Spear-shaking Celtic-type stuff, mostly. Men of Harlech, Scots Wha Hae, The Harp that Once, Parcel of Rogues, Follow Me up to Carlow, etc. Also a few songs translated from Yiddish, like Dona Dona and Zog Nit Keynmol. Then there are songs from the Revolution and the War Between the States - most of them are old chestnuts, but "Castle Rock Island/What a Court Hath Old England" is pretty obscure.

I'm not totally sure if Irving Berlin is folk, or just oldies so old you won't hear them on the oldies channel, but I like stuff in that vein, too.

Bob Dylan has never been hailed as having a great voice or great vocal ability. Good lord knows the man can barely carry a tune in a bucket What he can do is really tell a story with his singing and paint a mood with simple, honest vocals. "Early Morning Rain" is probably one of my favorite songs to date, and while I appreciate the covers done of it, there's something more that comes out when he sings it.

I respect Bob Dylan, but once again I'll have to go with RHCP. They had more of an influence on my musical choices as I grew up.
