Well, now that the 6th Star wars movie, Episdoe III, is out on DVD.... and there arent any more..... and the legacy is finished.... and theyve allready digitally remastered episdoes IV-VI..... whats next?

Theres no way that they could just stop there. Whether they made a sequel..or...prequel prequel... or they pulled a "lion king 1 1/2" and redid a movie from JarJar Bink's point of view.... theyve got to make more movies. If they keep them coming... people will keep on watching. And they will make billions. Or is it really over?

I was just wondering if any of you know any of Lucas's statements about this.... the only rumors Ive heard was that they wanted to remake Episodes IV-VI with new age technology and new actors and such... but the guy who told me said "it was just something he heard"... so... im sure its nothing to get excited about.

What do you THINK will happen? What have you HEARD will happen. What do you WANT to happen? Where does star wars go from here?

Star Wars to become new TV series

Two Star Wars TV series will follow the latest movie in the hit film franchise, director George Lucas has said.

Animated show Clone Wars, currently broadcast as three-minute episodes, will become "a 3D animated" series of 30-minute shows, he said.

It would be followed by a live-action series featuring characters from the six Star Wars movies, he added.

"We're probably not going to start that for about a year," he told a Star Wars convention in Indianapolis.

'Step away'

The latest Star Wars film, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, is released in most countries on 19 May.

The Clone Wars "micro-series" has had 25 three-minute episodes on Cartoon Network, taking the story up to Revenge of the Sith.

Mr Lucas told the Celebration III convention the live action TV series would be similar to Raiders of the Lost Ark spin-off The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

"Like on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, we want to write all the stories for the entire first season all at once," he said.

"I'm going to get it started, and hire the show runners and all of that, then I'll probably step away."

He said the live action series would feature stories taking place between movie episodes three and four - Revenge of the Sith and the original 1977 Star Wars movie.

Lucas said he "never considered" extending the Stars Wars story beyond episode six - Return of the Jedi.

"To be very honest with you, I never ever thought of anything that happened beyond episode six," he said.

"It's the Darth Vader story. It starts with him being a young boy and it ends with him dying. I never ever really considered ever taking that particular story further."

Mr Lucas said the live action series would feature some existing Star Wars characters - but would not elaborate.

"There's a lot of issues that are connected, but you won't necessarily see a lot of the people that are connected," he said.

Empire favourite

No broadcast dates for either series have been announced.

More than 30,000 fans attended the convention. Away from Star Wars, Mr Lucas added a fourth Indiana Jones movie was "definitely in the works".

Meanwhile, The Empire Strikes Back has been named the favourite Star Wars movie in a poll of more than 40,000 readers of film magazine Empire.

Han Solo was voted the favourite hero, Chewbacca was top alien and X-wing pilot Wedge Antilles was favourite minor character.

What more do the Star Wars fans need? They have movies, upcoming TV shows, countless video games, comics, action figures, fan films, fan fiction, fan art, countless people dressing up in Cons as their favorite Star Wars whatever.

They're gonna end up milking Star Wars dry.

Actually, there ARE three more SW episodes after Return of the Jedi, Episodes VII-IX. Lucas said himself that he has no intention of creating those three, but on this site it says that the character who plays Chewbacca, his contract required him to be available for the last three. And, GL said himself he wanted SW to be "a trilogy of trilogies".

I think VII-IX will be made, we'll just have to wait a decade or so. :P

but... these are all animated TV shows, arent they? Are there any non-animated things on the list of upcoming events?

well, i heard that was dumped.....
George Lucas ORIGIANLLY intended for there to be 1 movie. 1.
Then he realized it was too long, and split it into 3.
Then he said that he planned to make a total of 12 movies, following the life of anikan skywalker.
Then he started episode one, and dropped it to "9" shows....
and as he worked on episode III... he said it might just stay at 6.

so... yeah. thats what ive read.

Isn't there plans for 3-D versions? *goes to look*

The Hollywood Reporter wrote:
George Lucas is such a fan of the latest 3-D technology that he is planning to remaster all of the "Star Wars" films for rerelease in 3-D says today's The Hollywood Reporter.

Appearing as part of a sextet of high-profile directors (James Cameron, Robert Zemeckis, Peter Jackson, Robert Rodriguez and Randal Kleiser) promoting 3-D and digital cinema at ShoWest on Thursday, Lucas said he hadn't yet committed to a precise schedule but hoped to have the first film ready for the 30th anniversary of the original "Star Wars" movie in 2007 and that he would then rerelease one "Star Wars" film per year in 3-D.

Though apparently it is some kind of uber 3D rather than the shaky lines stuff we all know and love ^^ Haven't heard anything more lately about it though.

Good, because I have a lazy eye so regular 3-D doesn't work for me >_<.

It's a galaxy, can't milk all of it dry so quickly.

Anyway, I know everyone will be considerably disgruntled once he creates his live action spinoff series as it will brutally trample over all of the books.

Wow, special 3D versions will be AWESOME. :D

I love the six movies we have now, and really don't think we need any more new movies. The upcoming TV series and 3D re-releases are enough to keep me happy. :)

Bring back the ewok movies darnit.

Actually, they'd probably ruin them by making them too cutesy and happy and whatnot.

I withdraw my previous statement.

ooh.. fellow Star Wars addicts..

Anyway.. I believe basic plots of Episodes 7-9 have already been made.. Following the Rise of Luke, and making the Jedi Academy and all.. but most of it has already been done in the Books and stuff.. So making a movie on 7-9 would destroy the books, or will be a lame adaptation..

All I can see in the future.. is a possible re-make of the original triliogy.. Then George Lucas will DIE, and the rights of Star Wars will follow him to his death.. :(

no more movies

I love star wars, but please, no more movies. They're the one thing that people who don't like star wars hate. Another Star Wars movies.

There are more then 100 books, and more are coming as we speak. There are more games coming, there's a serie coming, maybe even more comic books, all covering a different time period of star wars, check google for Star Wars timelines, I've seen timelines of 195 pages long!

George Lucas also deserves a rest though; he'll continue reviewing his current movies so that they're being as good as it gets and fans will buy the DVD boxes, not knowing that 3 years later he already has another DVD Box xD

Erhem. The Official Unofficial timeline is closer to 1000.

The future is already laid out for Star Wars.

Big Company Execs are gonna demand more movies that will be more below par than Tiger Woods. Those will be followed by thousands of games that will only be bought by the collectors and diehard fanboys due to their resounding rubishness.

And then comes the conventions...
