Buying Music

Thu Jun 21, 2007 2:09 am

Lately, I've been reading all these news stories about how CD sales are decreasing and slowly heading to oblivion. I thought of this as I went to buy two CDs, and I like the physical format! It's always nice to flip through the album art, and it's just not the same to me as scrolling through a bunch of JPEGs or whatever the digital format uses. I'll be sad if the CD format does end up dying.

To those of you who buy music, do you buy physical CD versions or digital downloads? Singles, tracks, or a whole album? I just go for the whole album.

On the rare occasion that I want to collect new music, I buy a CD album. It's really nice to have a physical backup ready-made in case my computer/mp3 player goes boom.
Most of my music, however, comes from a friend's music collection, as I'm too lazy to find my own stuff. Music's not a big deal to me.

Although I like owning the physical CD, especially for bands that I love, I'm starting to find I own just too much stuff! (I noticed this especially when I moved out of home)

So, with mp3s, I really appreciate the fact that I don't have to store a CD case somewhere. I have a big box of them already that are gathering dust... so I don't need any more, thanks! :)

I still buy CDs, only if it is of an artist that I really love. Or an album that I really want. I usually download a few songs and if I love them, I'll go out and get the CD. It's just something about owning that makes me feel good. But then I'll put it onto my iPod. It's nice to have the physical backup in case something happens to my iPod too.

Everything but CD singles.. I like buying albums and the iTunes Music Store is just so convenient, especially with my parents' credit-card hooked up. Awesome.

I used to buy albums on CDs, but then I stopped wasting my time on that and just started downloading tracks. Not like I ever really use my CD player anymore.

I buy my CDs if I really like the band/artist and if I like over 1/2 their songs on the CD. If not, then I just go get the singles from iTunes.

It really depends. If I really like a bunch of songs by an artist I'll go out and buy the cd. If it's just certain songs I like, then I'll get the songs of itunes or something. :)

Mostly downloads for me. A lot of the music I like is very, very obscure and hard to find. But, for bands I love all the music they do, I try and get the CD. Been awhile since I had the money to buy a CD though.

Downloading them off the internet is a lot more convenient when it comes to space, but buying a proper album from a shop with artwork and other information is nice.

I like owning the actual CD, but now I'm buying a lot of albums/singles on iTunes because they are often cheaper and sometimes have bonus tracks. It just depends.

I buy albums, download singles and rarely download albums. If I download an album, I usually buy the CD in the next week or so.

I usually either buy the whole CD, or download single tracks from Wal-Mart.

I download albums but I forgot to mention that.. I'm so sorry :(

I go out to the store and buy myself one new CD every month. Spending an hour and a half in the car every day means I have to have music to listen to, so CDs are the way to go for me. I also buy single tracks from iTunes to put on my iPod.
