Wed Mar 22, 2006 5:36 pm

Winner from Last Week

U2 won against Natasha Bedingfield! The results:

Natasha Bedingfield: 40%
U2: 59%

Total Votes: 32

This week, U2 will take on Relient K (I had an 8 year old threaten me with an inch of my life! Plus, I did promise a few other people I'd do Relient K)!

---

Facts

U2
  • U2's latest album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, sold over 800,000 units in it's first week, doubling the sales of the CD they had released before that (All That You Can't Leave Behind)
  • After touring with hip-hop superstar Kayne West (who has sang, or in this case, rapped, hits like Gold Digger and Heard 'Em Say), U2 says they will be experimenting with styles that of hip-hop and rap.
  • Their singles include "Vertigo", "Sometimes You Can't Make It Out On Your Own", and "Original of the Species".

Total Number of Videos: 31

Relient K
  • Relient K originally formed back in 1999 on Gotee Records (home to artists such as Grits, 4th Avenue Jones and John Reuben) with four members. They have now grown to five members, but only two are the original.
  • Relient K's name was originally because guitarist Matt Hoopes had a Plymouth Reliant K car, but because of copyright issues, it couldn't be Reliant K. Therefore, they spelt it with two "e"s, and didn't have to worry.
  • Their singles include "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been", "Be My Escape" and "The Truth"

Total Number of Videos: 5

I'm not sure I've ever actually heard a Reliant K song, so U2 it is.

Wed Mar 22, 2006 6:08 pm

Relient K. :P

Most of the time, they're played on mainstream top 20 stations. Can't tell you how many times I've heard Who I Am Hates Who I've Been on my local station.

L'arc-en-Ciel

Information

..

...

..

Now, I'm not the most knowledgeable L'arc-en-ciel fan, I will admit this. I've been listening to them on a very limited basis since about 2001, and only own one album (another's in the mail). But I didn't think they had an English-language release yet. At least not in the capacity of the "Utada" release by Utada Hikaru (which was horrible...sad since she has such great Japanese songs that are 1/2 in English in the first place). So, um, isn't there a contradiction here?

Oh, and I vote for U2.

Relient K = suck to the ninth power.

In L'arc-en-ciel's case, they are widely known around the world. I even know of them and I don't listen to French music a lot although I do like some artists. If an artist is widely recognized around the world by people who don't listen to that type of foreign music, they are allowed to compete.
