On Monday (or probably Sunday night late) we will be redesigning the yellow bar. I just wanted to get a quick idea of peoples initial thoughts and complaints. Don't be mad it's going to be an improvement.

As you know the yellow bar has been there since November 99, and has a number of problems (the world being Earth, the graphical bug between news and shops, the little men on boards - what are they?!?!?!?!)

Aaaanyway, we are going to be doing teh following things and releasing it to 1000 beta testers randomly

1. Swapping the order to create a neopet, pet central, explore, games, world, neomail, shops, boards, news help

2. The yellow bar will now go over the top of the page as opposed to being just on the left

3. The time will be displayed on the left under logout

4. We will have a banner ad (mostly Neopets ads) at the top of the page, it will function mostly like the 120x60 button

5. Icons will change, especially explore, create a neopet and boards

6. The "New Event" text is going completely and will be replaced with an icon to the left of the header image

7. Something *special* Cant say what it is but just think of chat avatars...

Although we will be conducting a random beta test to get feedback I just wanted to get feedback before and after the fact, so just let me know what you think.

Wow. That's going to be a bit hard to get used to I like it on the left side. And those guys on the Boards button are teh awesome though! Well I guess I better go brainstorm.

It'll take some getting used to, but so does any signifigant change of anything. I think overall it'll be an improvement. I must ask (beg) that we will be able to change the colour of the bar (as mentioned in last week's editorial). I'm more of a dark blue sort of person, and the yellow is pretty much the opposite of that ;P


I think maybe it'll be on the top and the side (like a corner navigation thing) That could be useful.

Well, anyone with a custom lookup, especially personally created ones, will be having a fit.. especially since they annouced the lookup contests..

Toolbar will always be on the left, its just that the yellow continues around the top of the page.

Oh we also increased the width of hte page by like 20 pixels... yeah its gonna freak people out that have customised lookups, but there isnt much we can do about that

I agree with Sapphire Faerie, being able to change the colour would be really good. or being able to change the colour of the toolbar just on your lookup, so people see the colour you've picked when they look at it.

How will the beta testers be chosen? the same way as for the portal? clicking on the ad... or will it be some other way. i'd love to be a tester. (off topic, they have feedback forms in the lecture theatres now, hehehe, so cool! i know, i'm sad!!)

Swapping the order doesnt seem to make much of a difference, it'll just mean getting used to the new locations

By saying the bar is going over the top, does that mean it won't go down the side anymore at all? i'm slightly confused as to what you mean...

The time is a very good idea.

Changing the way the new event stuff works will deff be an improvement...

Hrm... this is quite interesting.

But I think this is one of those things you can't really tell if it'll be bad until we actually see it.

I'm actually very interested to see how a Top-bar navigation system would work. Gives a new perspective to the world of neopets

Wonder if there can be an option to keep the old or new styling of barring?

Eek, I entered in the lookup contest, does this mean all prior entries will be null, as they'll probably look terrible with the redesign?

I'm having a lot of trouble picturing this. Is it going to be similar to the yellow toolbar now, except horizontal instead of vertical? Or like the shop menu? Maybe a mix of the two?

that'd cause EVEN MORE problems with custom lookups!!!

The links that tell you if you've got a neomail, or a bid on trading posts etc. Will they stay in the original place or will they be moved to a different location?
