Yarr. I received this on a dreary afternoon not to long ago (today). It would seem that Neopets did not particularly like the topic I had created.

Here be the warning I got:

Quote:
You have received an official warning from the Neopets Team for violating the Neopets Terms and Conditions. Please do not advertise commercial websites on Neopets. All such posts will be blocked or removed. If you continue to break the rules, your account will be permanently frozen. To see a list of Neo Rules, please visit http://www.neopets.com/chatrules.phtml. Please do not reply to this NeoMessage.

And here be the post:

Quote:
Current Topic: Yarr, why does everyone want to be meh NeoFriend? Yarr!

Toucan Sam lives in meh mouth, fur goodness sakes! He keeps yanking my tongue with his beak while telling me to follow my nose. Then I end up walking in a straight line until I'm hitting the wall repetitively with my head, and falling down unconscious.

Then he steals all the doughnuts and cookies crumbs in my pocket and sells them on eBay. He's a wily one, that Sam.

Didn't Neopets have a Froot Loops game not long ago, anyway? Glad I didn't get to post my message about Sam sending the leftover crumbs to Cap'n Crunch to use in his cereal.

Wait for game to load. Buy faerie for 4500NP. Sell for 4625NP. Play Pteraattack. Wait for another game to load. The process of making money for the 56ker.

It's not 'Toucan Sam' it's the word 'Ebay'. There has been an incident of users being warned for using the word 'Ebay'. Odd considering Neopets has merchandise selling on there.

Actually General Mills is a sponsor of NP, not Kellogs (which owns Toucan Sam ;))

:D I remember when I had the Portal, there were stocks, and one of the featured stocks was eBay. :P

o_O yes that's true, and during the McDonald's HM thing, they advertised not one but two (albeit charity) auctions - on ebay. This is truly a "do as I say not as I do" scenerio...

The day they put that up on the McDonald's giveaway page, I had posted on my guild board that I couldn't find an orange aisha plushie anywhere. Someone suggested I try looking on ebay. I replied that that was a good idea, and that I would check ebay out. Logged out - when I logged back in I found a warning and all my guild posts cleared. Why? for saying ebay. It took me awhile to figure out what I could have done wrong, especially since the person who first posted that word! had nothing done to them - no warning, no clearing.

I'm not alone with this either. Virtual got warned then frozen for saying ebay.

I think this is going way too far. I know, there's people who are dumb enough to try to sell np, virtual items, even pets and accounts (yes I've seen them all and reported them) on ebay ... but that does not make it a bad site. How can it be if TNT is partnering with them for their own auctions and putting their stocks on the Portal? Which makes it sound like ebay's a sponsor of some sort.

things have reached a point when players are scared of shadows. in fact, i am quite paranoid when posting messages in neochats that contain brand names. for example, if i was going to say" Boochi can't aim probably..", i would think and rephrase it to say " Boochi can't target probably" for fear of the filter misunderstanding that i am asking for players' AIM.

Yeah, it was definitely the eBay. But what I do think is interesting is that people don't seem to get frozen/warned for saying it on guild boards - people say it on my guild board all the time :/

It's the same with saying hot. You can say, It's hot in my room so I'll open the window, and they can warn you for saying someone is "hot". Same with spelling mistakes that turn out as "nasty" words. They don't even check if the account did anything bad, the just warn or freeze...

Yup, it was eBay. I guess they don't want you to be selling your neo stuff on it so they freeze so you have no items to sell

Aye. It be the unwritten rule I was frozen for.

EBAY - Come on neopets. Stop being so mean! Either that or WRITE that rule somewhere in black and white. Since I never knew "ebay" was a "url"... I allways thought that was http://www.eba.... you get the idea...

Holly they apparently are looking at guild boards more - that's where my warning came from - posting the word ebay on the guild board. Weird that the other person who originally suggested it to me had nothing happen, huh? Not that I want anyone to get a warning!

Mistykal, when I see someone post that the weather's hot, something along those lines I just cringe anymore waiting for the "axe" to fall on them. And no, I'm not saying anything ... yes I'm a coward, yes I'm paranoid. Knowing my luck I'd either get warned or frozen for telling the person not to say certain words - like "impersonating staff" or something bizarre.

I am SO careful now when I DO post, which isn't often. I hardly ever use things with an ' or a , in them - in case that's seen as trying to pass the filters, don't post anything out of the site (not soup faerie, nothing). So my posts are kinda weird and formal looking these days.

Example of weird things that filters catch: I had a filter stop me from posting on the guild board ... I said something like "I'll be back in a bit, ok?" and got a don't use profanity filter! :o I had to look a long time to figure out what the problem was, then I was like
