Start charging? I doubt it...
#1 They would probably lose half their users that way
#2 They already have plenty of sponsors to keep the site going

Souns like a silly rumor someone started to distress people. ;)

Load of rubbish. But people believe anything on the neo-boards.

If they did charge anyway I'd quit. Since they froze me just for saying "ebay". ¬_¬

I agree. Just a rumour.

..I'm probably the only person who'd LOVE it if they started charging. It'd certainly bring the number of chatspeaking, moronic, half-witted mooks down a good deal. As long as the price wouldn't be too high, I'd still play.

And you can't really blame them for freezing you for saying "ebay". Everyone's aware that there are scams going on at Ebay for quite a while where they're -selling- accounts and whatnot.

They didn't even get the information from even a reputable site let alone TNT themselves. They just heard it from somebody, who probably heard it from somebody, who heard it from somebody who had taken most likely taken a glance at the neopets premium page and didn't bother reading. Stupid rumors spread by gullible people.

Neopets WILL not make us pay, for one thing there are tons of sites that have resorted to making people pay after being free and it starts there downfall. There making tens of millions of dollars anyway they don't need to make people pay, neoboards are filled with crap like so just tune them out.

... I don't understand how you could possibly agree with TNT about getting frozen for saying ebay. Just because scams are on ebay doesnt mean you should be frozen for mentioning ebay... thats like saying you can't say Wal-Mart because people could steal your purse while you are in Wal-Mart...

Well I think I can blame them for freezing me for an unwritten rule. Since it states that I was posting off site urls. I meerly said a name of a site. This is easily done.
There are people who deserve to be frozen who actually are scamming and cheating.

I meerly said to someone that she can look for a guitar on ebay. Hardly freezable since it was not breaking any set rules. So I completely dissagree. The rules are going too far. It's becoming less fun.

Thanks tonu. I worry about saying anything on there now. Since it was in a neomail to a friend I've known for over a year also. It's like they only freeze for a word now. In a robotic way. As if they don't really read the context of how it was used. I'm even afraid of saying the english "mate" sine I say it a lot when I'm in the UK but it means "partner" or other in US.

There is neopets premium. It costs a certain amount a month, but you don't HAVE to get it.

I think it's the whole Premium thing that's started those rumors -- because you do pay for that (and no, I wouldn't touch it, let alone pay for it). But people took the whole Premium service way out of context and got the idea the the site's going completely pay for play.

Alot of people would quit...period if they made it pay site.

As far as that ebay things goes, that still makes me :x , first they had advertised their (granted charity) auctions on the McDonald's page with a link to go to the auctions (so much for no clickable outside links) - the day I got a warning and all my guild board messages cleared for responding to another member who suggested ebay for an orange aisha plushie I couldn't find (and the other person who originally posted the word ebay? - nothing happened to them; go figure!). And they have ebay stock listed on their portal page. So if it's a supposed "scam" site, they're totally breaking their own rules.

And just saying ebay is not posting an outside link. If
the whole url for ebay was posted, then that's an outside link, but it's still not like someone posting a personal site url which could be a bad site.

Virtual, I'm in the same position - ever since my warning, I'm almost paranoid about what I post. Like, I wanted to suggest photobucket to someone looking for a good image host, but I'm almost afraid I'll get another warning for "outside link" or worse, since it would be my second warning for the same thing I'd be frozen.

I agree that there are plenty of places that shouldn't be posted, but I do think this whole thing has gone too far. We should be able to post a known, safe, trusted site.

Most likely a huge lie. I won't believe it until they post it in the news... Because I wouldn't pay for the kind of service that you get with Neopets.
But I doubt that they'd require you to pay to use their site. If it was like Toontown, that might be different, but not NEOPETS!

Amazing what one can come up with when one is given a cardboard box and a roll of duct-tape!
