Weather in SLO was fantastic this weekend!

That's good, Blue! How's the air quality? Is the sky still Martian?
I remember how weird it was with the Saharan dust, especially when it came down into the lower atmosphere and made it hard to breathe. I'm sure this is 10,000,000 times worse. (I've occasionally experienced smoke from distant fires, but they were always 200+ miles away and many magnitudes smaller.)

SLO had a nice marine layer in the evening through morning. Blue skies during the day. Hardly any smoke. Returning was likely the best (nearly-non-existent) traffic ever.
Returning to work this morning... really poor air quality with tons of smoke and ash in the air. At least the sun is much closer to yellow today!

I hope your air is still okay, Blue! My friend in the L.A. area can't even walk outside right now. He went for a fifteen minute walk when the air didn't seem that bad, and he felt awful for a week + afterwards.

Air quality is still poor. We are making sure all doors are closed to help keep out the smoke. Unfortunately, you also go "nose blind" to smells, including smoke. Since we have been living under it for so long, it does not seem as bad as it is. If they were out walking around for 15 minutes in this nasty air without a decent mask, they likely inhaled in far too much smoke. Feeling awful for one week is not uncommon for that much smoke inhalation. Hopefully they are feeling better now.
While we have company supplied surgical-type masks for Covid safety, anyone who needs to spend any amount of time must wear an N95 mask due to the smoke. Not easy to find N95 masks right now!

Smoke is no fun, at all. When the Sahara dust hit here, you could smell and taste it, it was nasty. Smoke is soooo much worse, though!
OMW, I cannot believe I had that typo. Clearly, I am tired!

Sahara dust does not sound like much fun, either. Must have been awful this year if they had dubbed it "Godzilla!"

The dust was weird, but it wasn't that strong. Not as bad as the pollen tastes when the count goes over 9,000 particles per cubic meter. Or even over 4,000. (Okay, the 9k+ has only happened a handful of times. The 4,000-6,000 is several days every single year; anything over 1500 is "extremely high" - the highest level of the scale, so we're just completely off the chart regarding pollen. I've lived in other areas considered "bad," but they were nothing.*) I was wearing a mask back when we were being told to save them for healthcare workers, and I wanted to write a sign "this is over 10 years old and it's only a comfort mask.' Oh, how things have changed!
Blue, having to keep buildings locked up tight isn't good for Covid-19! (Neither are evacuations, mass shelters, etc.) These dual disasters are so tough.
We're having the remnants of Sally right now. We're supposed to get 4-6" of rain, possibly more. It was supposed to start around 5, then the heavy rain was supposed to start around 11pm and last until 7am. We were already at an inch at 4:30. and the heavy stuff started around 9:30. They haven't changed the ending time yet. I need to make sure I go to sleep during a less heavy band.
*I had to look up what the worst pollen season in the world is. I'm not sure it's the highest, but
Islamabad apparently routinely has counts in the 30,000's, with records above 50,000. That's... that's... I can't even. It's paper mulberry, so the pollen is microscopic, but still... It's got to be visible at that density. The air here takes on a yellow-greenish hue, and even the sun is a little hazy behind it all.
