I went at 9:45 pm, after everyone else had gone home for the day! The tripod is defective, and it seems to be a design flaw, so now do I risk returning it and having the same issue down the line, or trade it in for the name brand that costs more than 3 times as much (and might very well have the same flaw)? It's the cell phone mount that's defective, so I could replace that part of it and... *checks online* still have paid only 40% of the name brand... Huh. Guess that answers that question.
How hard should I look for the tiny white piece of plastic that came flying off when it broke? (It was holding the spring onto the metal sliding part - I tried to remount it, but obviously I don't have the tool to make it secure, and considering how much tension it's under, it's only a matter of time before the other one is rocketed off, too... and without functional springs, the cell phone mount won't hold the phone.)
