As a lifelong monster fan and studier of parasitic organisms, no creature can actually weird me out (except perhaps those Ju-on ghosts), but I'm very interested to get an idea of what other players consider the most monstrous pets.

PLEASE no pointless, unoriginal "joke" answers ("The babyca! It gives me nightmares!") or soapboxes ("Post-customization grey pets!") this is not about ugly art, poor designs or tacky cuteness. Think of pets and petpets that are meant to be ghastly and weird. Which do the best job?

Image

I've always liked the partially open eyes of ghost chias (a trait thankfully preserved through customization), which somehow make them look "deader" than most other ghost pets.

As far as actual creepiness goes, the mutant Gnorbu has a lot going for it too. It looks like a farm animal from a fallout zone...the drooping eyeballs are especially unsettling and cool!

Image
As far as petpets go, the design of the Goulblee is SO inventively bizarre and eerie. A body like a melting candle, a head like a monkey with no apparent mouth and Hedorah-like eyes. I'd love see a neopedia on them, some artist has a lot of explaining to do.

Image
The intesteen is my single favorite thing on the site (I love body-organ creatures) and cute as a button, but hugging either end of it would probably be a terrible, TERRIBLE idea, and I'm inclined to wonder where it even comes from. Is it a natural, organ-like animal of the Haunted Woods or an actual intestine re-animated into a small monster?

And for petpet grossness, what could be worse than a couple undead spooks made from used personal hygiene products?

My two favorite sinister looking pets post revamp are the ghost aisha and the mutant lupe. Aishas are my favorite pet of all time and I was generally quite unhappy with their redraw, but I actually love the new ghost. I've always loved the mutant lupe. Sometimes (quite often) mutants end up looking goofy, but the lupe still has his dangerous eyes and I think if I was ever going to break away from my aisha tradition this pet would def end up on my main 4 lineup.

The idea of dung in general kinda makes me gag, so I'd have to say they are the grossest pets/petpets/items IMO. Before I finished reading your post I was going to make a joke about meepits, but I thought better of it. ;) Maybe mutant meepits, they are creepy inside and out.

Probably the only Neopet that ever scared the living daylights out of me was this one:

An angry Mutant Koi. It...I..just...*shudder* That's actually most of the reason I think it's one of the best Mutant pets out there. I also think these guys are pretty gross-looking, though they don't creep me out NEARLY as much:

ImageImage

I get the feeling that if you poked the Mutant Quiggle enough times, he'd get fed up and bite your entire arm off. And then you'd better hope you have some peroxide on you, otherwise the resulting infection would REALLY gross you out. The Mutant Blumaroo just reminds me of something that was pulled out of a bathroom drain (gag). And yet I like it, because I'm crazy about Blumaroos. Even the ugly ones. :P

As for petpets, I'd have to second Dung as a color in general. I'm not too crazy about the Dribblet, either. Though I find the Mutant one strangely hilarious.

Oh yes, almost forgot the Candy Vampire. The soulless eyes and exposed dagger teeth....*double shudder* Not to mention it's a Candy Corn, easily one of the most vile things in existence.

Yeah, makes more sense.

I actually think the "goofy" mutants are cooler and creepier than the "sinister" ones as they have that whole "corrupted cartoon character" feel to them, like some of the horror toys I grew up with in the 80's. Madballs are the best example.
