Summary

Using user reports, a comprehensive database of Neopets' economy could be created. One can see from where every commodity comes and to where every commodity goes. Appropriate search queries could allow one to search for different commodities, shops, quests, and prizes.

Introduction

Neopets has a large economy with many purchases happening each day on numerous commodity types. A comprehensive mapping of the economy will enable the tracking of different resources, be it Neopoints, fullness, dubloons, or anything else. There may be interesting patterns of how resources can flow, be it useful for academic reasons or to make Neopoints from the sale of commodities.

Previous Work

A search in the PinkPT fora topic titles for the terms "economics", "economic", and "economy" yields seven matches. Of these, one attempted to track the creation and destruction of Neopoints. However, this does not track the creation or destruction of other types of resources, such as dubloons, omelettes, or hit points.

Objectives

  1. Track all types of resources.
  2. Show where resources can come from and go to.
  3. Allow easy searching of the database so that different queries can be performed.

Description

Users can report where things can be created or lost. These will be input into a searchable database. The creation and loss of resources will be organized by location. As an example:

Skies Over Merridell
+Neopoints

Dice-a-Roo
-Neopoints (paying to play)
+Neopoints (winning)
+Can of Neocola
etc. . .

A web-based reporting form is planned so that users may enter data into the database. Also, to facilitate access to the database, a web-based lookup page is planned.

I hope this idea strikes people's fancy. I think it would be neat to see this. I eagerly look forward to your responses.
