:x can't use the shop wiz. Neo keeps blanking the page and flashing "You can't use Greasemonkey with this page" even if I disable greasemonkey and then reload (I actually see part of the wiz image loading before they block me from it). Apparently they expect me to uninstall it.

(For non-firefox users, greasemonkey is this little extension to manage userscripts. For example, mine monitors gmail and prompts me if it thinks I forgot to attach something in my email, etc.)

I'm emailing them now... :(

EDIT: okay, so it's their site & all, but they could have at least announced it or something...

This problem has been around since yesterday, I wondered when it was going to pop up on PPT - apparently not too many PPT'ers use greasemonkey. There are a lot of angry people out there. Some use greasemonkey scripts for their JOB - their WORK! And now they can't play parts of Neopets!

This was put into play because of a particular script, but it is hurting a lot of people who aren't using that script.

This is absolutely pathetic.

Neopets are dictating whether or not I can use a specific script on my computer. And if I need to use it for work, or for developing websites, or for other things - well, I'm just SOL and will either have to uninstall it or quit playing Neopets.

If they said "Hey, you're not allowed to use X script, please disable it on Neopets", that would be a different matter. It's well within their rights, and annoying as it may be, I have no problem with it.

But from what I've heard, they're exploiting a Firefox glitch which allows them to see and use files on our computer, dictating our use. That's not right.

Gone, forever.

Yeah, I use a few greasemonkey scripts for KoL, and I can't use the shop wizard anymore.

Now when I want to use the shop wizard, I have to open it in IE.
Or IE Tab for Firefox. Opening it in IE Tab works.

Yes. Neopets is exploiting/abusing a bug on Firefox (#292789). Which is funny, because if we exploit/abuse bugs on Neopets, we get frozen. I personally would thing it would be hilarious if Firefox sued Neopets. They won't, but it'd be funny to see Neopets get in trouble for following the "do as I say not as I do" saying.

I'm not having any SW issues but that's because I have Premium, and use the SSW.

But what about if I get banned from the SSW? What do I do then? I don't want to use a new browser just to price my shop, or to look up something for someone on a quest.

There's a lot of premium users who are talking about leaving the site. And I'm also hearing threats of being frozen if people don't completely uninstall greasemonkey.

I agree with you on everything except the last part. Where exactly did you hear that people were being frozen for this? It certainly wasn't here, and the Neoboards aren't a reliable source.

Ok... Based on the insistance of what I see as people screaming fire in a crowded space, I'm going to state the facts and give a warning. The code does NOT look thru or access your computer in any way. It simply checks to see if the browser has loaded a specfic file much in the same way web sites check for cookies. Nothing is altered. If this misinformation continues, accounts will be frozen.

Dozens of people are canceling premium over this, many are probably going to quit Neopets over this. Many of my friends are canceling premium. (friends - not people I heard about through the neoboards, although I have seen many people say they were canceling premium on the neoboards over this issue.)

As long as you're not running Greasemonkey you're fine.

What if I use a CSS file to block banners?

What if I disable JavaScript?

What if my browser does not support JavaScript?

What if I use a Greasemonkey clone for IE?

What if I use Greasemonkey, but don't use it for *.neopets.com?

Oh right, I forgot! Its a clumsey rule in the first place...

It's not a clumsy rule; it's not even a rule.

lol!

We were joking on the premium thread that Neopets should just come out with their own browser. And you can only play Neopets if you're using the Neopets browser. :P Then they can do whatever they want with it.

Thanks.

As for this not being a rule, come on. Reality check! This is a so-called unwritten rule (or, the result of new programming code targetting an issue based on an existing rule). Deal/live with it. Your NP were never yours. Your items were never yours. It is a virtual game; the owners of Neopets are the owners and decide who plays it and who doesn't; you do not have this power. If they kick you from their site or freeze your account with virtual money and/or property, that is their right.
There is nothing you can do about it. There is no "fair trial" on Neopets.com in this regard. I've played so many online games, online forums and other online things where such power vacuum exist (on both sides of the fence) that I realize that and am able to discern now.

However, I do find the previously asked questions quite vague, grey areas.

Can you disable all scripts on *neopets* and then use it?

If not, try getting IE tab for Firefox, then all you have to do is click the little firefox icon in the bottom right to open IE in a tab on Firefox on that page.
