Just opened a game of Ultimate Bullseye and my MSN popped up with "You have just recieved a new message from mailto:password@neopets.com" ... I knew straight away what that meant, checked the email and yep sure enough someone had requested my password to be sent.. what the heck!

It definetly wasn't me! Had just finished watching the simpsons and just hoped on and opened a game... gahhh.. quickly just changed my password again just in case and now I think I'm gunna have to PIN my SDB, Bank, Shop etc. :(

I wish there was some way of knowing who it was.. gah.. don't see why anyone would want my account anyway, I ain't no millionare!

NOTE: When I went to change my PIN it asked for my current PIN.. umm.. I don't have one.. what would it be? 1234 or some default number? o.O

If you didn't have a PIN before, I'd think you could just leave it blank. Otherwise, I'd say whoever requested your password had created their own PIN, except how could they if they didn't even know your password? o_O

Tried leaving it blank and it said

Quote:
ERROR : Sorry, but the PIN number we have stored is not matching the one you entered, so your transaction cannot take place.

Number of failed attempts allowed: 5

Your number of failed attempts: 4

That was when I tried leaving it blank and 1234... o.O

I think you can have your PIN emailed to yourself as well, no?

Me in a dress - that's a once in a lifetime opportunity

People (I don't know if it's one really persistent person or a bunch of random people) request my password all the time. I've stopped worrying about it. They don't know the e-mail address I use for Neopets (I don't use it for forums or anything else), they won't be able to guess my crazy long random password, and I have everything PIN protected. People can request my password (or yours, or anyone's) as much as they like, but unless they can get into our e-mail accounts to retrieve the mail, they can't get the password themselves. Just make sure your e-mail is secure and your password is unguessable, and delete the mails.

Great suggestions Cran!

I used to have this problem when I had a spare account who's name had very common elements. People made mistakes in thier account name and put mine instead. I know it wasn't my account becuase it had nothing in it at all. I eventually closed the account because it irritated me, but it was harmless.

Now, if you go to log into your account and cannot because somebody already tried and failed three times, then I'd worry!

That's why I stay logged into mine all the time, but I have my own computer that no one uses (or has access to) except me, and I only go on Neo from here (I log out if I'm going on vacation and think I may want to check my account from somewhere else). That may not be practical for other people.

Gondra, if I were you I'd change my e-mail password ASAP. Maybe the person somehow got into your e-mail account and found out (or knew before) that you have a Neo account. Then he requested your passwords, and after he/she/it got it they logged into your account, put up a PIN and who knows what will they do next...

Somehow I don't think that changing your PIN would help, if you don't change your e-mail password before.

Becuase Ive tried to change my PIN about a week ago and the same thing happened, theres no way anyone would be able to get into my email adress and no one i know from MSN or anything knows i play Neopets... only people on Neopets know I play Neopets lol and my email is empty apart from like 2 things that have nothing to do with Neo.

Id say its more a random person trying to have a go at getting in, probably bcos the link in my sig tkes u to my pets page that u can then find my username with, either that or some random off the neoboards or something *shrug*

Request your PIN and it will be sent to your email.

I noticed that you use MSN for an email address. Microsoft email, such as MSN and Hotmail can be hacked by someone using MSN messenger. I have seen that problem, where someone on your messenger talks to you on IM, and in the background downloads all your Internet Explorer logins and passwords. Especially if you have them set to be remembered and have cookies saved.

Once they get your email password, they can then ask for a lost password and get your Neopets password.

About a year ago the NTWF had someone hack several member's accounts using that method. It took a lot of work comparing and sharing IP addresses with some of Neopet's staff to pinpoint the thief, and cost some people a lot of items before we could get accounts restored. We tracked the perpetrator to Belgium, BTW. Some kid with an add-on program for Windows Messenger.

Act my age? I am too young to be THAT old!

Once, I was on htis forum and some guy wasn't supposed to post hacks but he was like Find someones User Accoutn. Say Lost Password fill in that and stuff then try to find there pw for e mail and then go on there account and jack there stuff. Of course, I didnt use this but, It said that. And people posted on that topic " I just did this and it worked" " Im trying to make people really angry with this so they quit"

Just a warning. Ill look a gain in my other computer's Favorites cause I have it pinned there. (( not to do that of course ))

Ill get back to you with the forum link if you want.

That makes me glad I have a special mailing system that makes it impossible for anyone to recieve/send emails from other than my computer.
