Email adresses are a dime a dozen. Want a gmail addy? I can send you an invite, or ten, or whatever. PM me if you do, I can create an invite link without getting your email, which might sound risky to give out now I guess.

Thats insane...

thankfully, my username is simply similar to my e-mail, but not identical, so I shouldn't get bugged with this. I use some form of my username on bassiacly everything I sign up on, its easier that way to remember stuff. I rarely use the same passwords though, which is how I keep things more secure.

I'd hate to be bugged about things like this...Why would it matter if your e-mail is the same? There are a ton of e-mail domains, so its not like someone will try to e-mail you by knowing your username.

I used to agree with you - however I had a problem last year where I had my email set to a hotmail account w/same user name. Sure enough someone decided they wanted my account - got into my hotmail account and from there, I got my account back but it was a real heartstopper for a while there.

Long and Short of it is - even if you think your a low profile user sometimes random things happen and its not a bad idea to take precautions.

If anyone wants a gmail invite PM me.

Hrmph, I think this is rather silly. But then again, I'm still getting the 'STOP! YOUR PASSWORD'S NOT SECURE ENOUGH!' thing when I log in. I'll *never* change it 'cause of that =)

But the email I'm using is my one and only email! I can't just NOT use it  I might end up using my rarely acknowledged crewwolf email for my mainjari account and my mainjari email for my crewwolf account.

I have a yahoo account that matches my username, but I've always kept a different e-mail attached to Neopets. A couple of years ago I lost control of my yahoo mail for a few days and I always assumed it was someone trying to get my Neopets account.

Just last week someone sent the password on one of my old gallery accounts to my e-mail. I still haven't figured out why.

Maybe the warning should have been not to let your old e-mail expire, or someone might grab it and try for your account. Thar' be pirates about, y'argh.

Ironically, just last night I changed all of my accounts to my new e-mail, which matches the name of one of my sides.

Unless they MAKE you change it, I'm not. I think the risk of losing or forgetting about whatever email I make it is greater than someone breaking into that account, which is an obscure side I have little of value (except the pets) on anyway. I know too many people who have forgotten their password only to discover they can no longer get email at the address they have entered. Plus, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought gmail was more secure than Hotmail.

To my knowledge, gmail is more secure (uses https when you are on the log in page). Of course, I would think that depends on the security of your computer (no spyware, keyloggers, etc.) ... unless you're like me and keep things on a disc and c&p all your passwords.

However, having watched my roommate go through the seven circles of you-know-where because she used the same s/n for everything and her email, having her email broken into and from there someone going shopping using her cc information, I can say that I agree with Neo and any other company on this one.

Your s/n and email address should not be the same. That's just kind of asking for problems. It's like using your birthday for your password or pin - just not the best idea.

Same here. My password has about 10+ characters...I think changing it will make it more unsecure (IMO), since everyone has a "secure password" now.

I find it funny that when scammers see my email address here they automatically assume that's my neopets mail and email me "I am a staff member's brother/I hacked the system/I hacked a brother system staff member" mails.

I just berate them and block, if they can't be bothered working out what my Neo email is, then they don't deserve even feigned stupidity...

Well, what if you're using the Neopets Premium Webmail email address? That's mailto:yourusername@neopets.com... are you supposed to change that one, too?

Hotmail is as leaky as a sieve. At the NTWF (NT Writer's Forum) we had someone from Belgium use MSN messenger to grab the hotmail information from a couple of people they talked to. From there, they hacked into the person's NTWF and Neopets account.

Took me a lot of work with IP tracking to find the person, then I worked with Snowflake to get the accounts back to the rightful owners, but not after this person had ransacked them.

This person also set up a Neopets account that was almost identical to one that was hacked and was using the hacked accounts to post "I had my account hacked! Please help" messages on the NTWSF to get donations.

That was late 2004, but I tell people to never use Hotmail as an email reference for anything. Once the Hotmail account is hacked, all the person needs to do is request a lost password.

I have a Hotmail account, and I use it only for those places I don't care about.

HUGE WARNING...never ever ever ever use your premium email address (mailto:yourusername@neomail.com) as the email account listed to have your password sent to! If someone knows you're Premium, they automatically have your email address to try to get into.

A good friend of mine had her account stolen by doing that. It was a huge hassle, and only because the thief got in through her neomail.com account was Premium support able to help in conjunction with TNT in speedily returning her account (just a few hours). Items had been stolen, pets had been abandoned...you know the deal.

I have no idea how secure neomail.com email is, but it doesn't matter. Even the most secure things are not 100% hackerproof. I never use my neomail.com addy for anything of importance, period.

It's also a good idea to use separate passwords for your neomail.com account and your neopets.com account. Better safe than sorry.
